Makers Mark......Too Big For This Knife?

Wow, way too big.... ruins the whole knife. You wouldn't want to give that to a friend.

So, since you don't know me I'll be more than happy to "help you out" and let you give it to me...
.........it is the least I can do to help you out of a jam Dave ... :D

I'll PM you my address in a minute......... heck, I'll even pay the shipping. ;)

:)

Now....... back to reality and the question in the OP.

No, the mark is not to big.

AND, that is one beautiful knife.
Your forum friend will be a happy camper............

Merry Christmas !!!!

Thanks for your help!!, starting to feel better about the size of this mark.

I think it's amazing (and frustrating!) how a makers brain sometimes works, seeing things they made different than someone else looking at the same thing.

I am not particularly fond of the font used for your initials
Up close it's a pretty cool font Chris, (font name is middle earth or frodo or something like that :)) Patricia @ IMG worked it up along with my more traditional makers mark, D. Kelly. I'll try to post a close-up later.

Thanks,
Dave

Here's the font Chris, been wanting to take this pic. for the registry anyway

Thanks Caden_Vekk!

Made this roll top/lined sheath for it this morning using Paul Long's cross draw sheath making method.......I used his method, didn't say it looks like Paul's beautiful sheaths! :)

Hey Dave,

That's an unique looking knife. Your hamons are to die for. I admire not only your designs and craftsmanship, but also that you put yourself out with your questions. I learn so much from them.

I've kind of wondered about the whole maker's mark thing too. They're obviously needed, but I'm not so sure it's great if they're too obvious, if you know what I mean. I think I see what you're wondering about, in that the mark draws the eye to it. I suspect that'd be so no matter what the size. I tried to imagine it smaller and moved around in different places, but it didn't seem to make much of a difference (in my imagination, that is). In deed, I believe any mark of any kind or size draws the eye. It's kind of the trade off one has to make in order to make his mark.

Oh, by-the-way, I've always liked that font and enjoy its application in both your marks.

All the best, Phil

Worrying about that makers mark on a knife like this is like worrying about the serial number on a Grover Cleveland bill....

I was rotary tool scratching my makers mark in for a little over 5 years and only marked a few knives so far using stencils. Just like all the other procedures in making a knife it's important to get correct. Sometimes it's difficult for me to know what looks ok (like most of the time :)) so I come here to ask for help, I really appreciate your sincere opinions.

Thanks again!
Dave

gixxer, You were talking about the hamon looking like a thunder cloud, I think it was Matt Roberts who posted one of his blades here that looked just about like your photo.....it was pretty amazing!

Dave,

That is one great looking knife, and I think that your mark shows that you have put considerable thought in every aspect of your knifemaking.

I wouldn't change a thing.

Kelly

Dave,

Amazing knife! Everything I've seen you post has such a polished and finished feel to it! And great photography to boot.

It's not too big.

Says a man who should know! I'd take that to the bank.

Thank you Kelly

Thanks Nathan

I may order a size smaller for this one next time I need stencils, I'm going back to making folders soon (insert fingers crossed smilie) and this would be too big.
