Maker's Mark

My mother in law lives just down the road from the distillery. If you like Makers Mark try some Evan Williams or Elijah Craig. Bourbon is at such high demand at this point that Maker's Mark is really watering down their product with bourbon that isn't aged for very long. Elijah Craig 18 yr single barrell is my favorite but the Evan Williams stuff is (12 & 15 yr) is really good and actually cheaper than MM.

I have a good story about Ridgemont Reserve 1792 bourbon. Earlier this year, my dad told me that he liquor store had it for less than $20 a bottle. I told him to buy a couple of bottles for me. When I was there last month, I discovered that he bought ten bottles for me. I brought them back to California. I have gone through two bottles thus far. Great stuff.

I'm pretty sure that makes you a BOOTLEGGER Doc! :D

Well... not really, but it sure sounds good. You outlaw.

I picked up a bottle of Evan Williams Single Barrel (2000 Vintage) for $20.69 this past week. I'm normally a single malt Scotch drinker, but I really like this Bourbon. Very smooth with fruit and spices that make this a very drinkable, and affordable, dram to add to the liquor shelf. I'll have to go back on Monday to pick up a few more bottles at that great price. :)

I suppose I should also grab a MM46 as well, since it is sitting right there next to the EW.

I blame Jerry for getting me started on Scotch, and all you Hogs who posted in this thread for nudging me into the Bourbon glass; or is that nidging the Bourbon into my glass.

As the Boss Man always says.......Let's Drink!

I first found busse combat knives in a american survival guide magazine as a teen . Any way back to the spirits . Last thanksgiving me and the wife were in nc for the holidays and a buddy gave me some apple pie brandy , which appears to be some high quality shine ,quartered apples and various spices . The best alcohol to ever grace this palate ,hell im gonna get me some rite now------->nice meetin yall

Hi Joe! Glad to hear you came out of the shadows.

Now, here is the important question...when you learned of Busse Combat back then, did you buy one of their knives? Because I would be happy to give you what you paid for it.

Don't thank me, it's a Hog thing... that's what we do here... we are givers.

If you like Vodka you should try Titos Handmade from Texas! Damn that's some great vodka! Six times distilled, one more than Stoli Elit and only for $17.00! But the 46 is incredible, I don't normally drink bourbon, but I love MM 46.

I like the Tito's.

As for an inexpensive vodka, I used to go with Skyy, but lately I drink Viking Fjord. It's a good potato vodka at an insanely inexpensive price ($20 for 1.75L). I'm not the only one who thinks it's good. At vodkaphiles.com, Tito's rates a 4.49 (out of 5) with 45 visitor reviews. By comparison, Viking Fjord rates a 4.78 with 23 visitor reviews.

Good info Guyon... Tito's in the glass as we speak.

I'll try the Viking Fjord...

I think morrowj_98 likes the VF as well. It's good stuff for the money IMO. I didn't expect much when I first tried it, but I was surprised by the price/quality ratio. I have a bottle in the freezer as I type. Not everyone likes it though. This guy gave it the "Hobo's Choice Award." :D But then these three folks really liked it. My point? Reviews appear mixed across different sites, but for $20 or less, it's not hard to try it yourself and see what you think.

I'll have to try the VF, thanks for the tip! It sounds like a good excuse to get stupid. :D

That martini looks pretty wonderful, a little dirty (maybe?) but wonderful the same. Would you happen to know the meaning of the three olives, though? I've been dying to find someone who knew what it stood for. I heard a long time ago that it was for 'Son, Father, and the Holy Ghost', but that doesn't make sense to me, who prays before they sip a martini?

I've read Peace, Love, and Harmony too.
Quite possibly, they stand for buzzed, drunk, and incoherent. :p

SaguaroKid, you wrote:
Alcohol is the solvent of life. It slowly washes it away. I'll drink to that. :D
Alcohol is also simultaneously the cause of, and solution to, all of life's problems. I'll drink to that, too. Oh, wait... :D

I'll be finishing up a bottle of Old Rip Van Winkle 12-Year "Lot B" bourbon later this evening. For now, it's "Black Box Wines" Cabernet Sauvignon.
