Making a Fogg forge PICS!

Looking sweet man!

Why do you regret the satanite coating? That stuff is the only reason my forge is still in one piece!

well it is satanite it is this "refractory cement" but it tends to bubble when heated... and it popped some of the ITC off so i had to redo part of it. lesson learned. it is a kinda plasticy yellow compound that is water soluble but i think it shares some traits with elmer's glue.. the same kinda watery stickiness.
thanks!

Don't risk it, man... black iron pipe can be had for next to no money at all, and we won't be worrying about you DYING because of zinc poisoning -- and yes, it's a very real fear.

Sweet work, btw bro! Very adept handling of a 4" angle grinder.

Tangent...

A buddy if mine is into making Firechuks... Nun-chuks with batting on the end to light on fire, for after-dark presentations. He brought in his latest creation today and I was admiring his work. My only suggestion was a swivel in the chain... until I noticed that he'd used electrical conduit for the pipe. A warning buzzer went off when I remembered this thread. Now, he's headed back to the hardware store for some black pipe. His only concern is the weight... Does anyone have any suggestions for lightweight piping that can safely take some heat? Only talking about 100-150 degrees...

Thanks!

if you arnt getting it very hot.. shouldnt aluminum pipe work? or brass
does it have to be steel? Stainless is good... and you can get thin wall steel pipe.. you might have to order it though.
try McMaster Carr... they are a GREAT supplier
