Making a Traditional Bow

Hey Echo4v Stingray s got it right the rest is always on the left if you shoot right handed and on the right if you shoot left handed . The arrow would fall off of the rest or knuckle because of the way you tilt the bow . Like im right handed I tilt the bow to the right so I can look down the arrow so with my dominant eye because I shoot instinct no sights.

Wife is about to upload part 1 of my goofy video to youtube and link it here if this is not what you fine folks want to see please let me know so I don’t make a fool of myself .If its what you dig then ill keep at it .I thought after this I would have little segments that go into more detail about trad archery .Like instinct shooting ,stalking deer and so on

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who replied to my question. I, like everyone here probably, have made many stick bows as a kid and shot them until they broke. I have never actually carved a bow though and I have always wanted to so this thread will be very popular with me. Thanks for being willing to share your knowledge.

David

So, is it going to be in this thread or it's very own thread?

If you are going to build along I would suggest making your tillering tree in advance. It will definiately help with getting the limbs even.

THis is awesome. I've got a piece of hickory, and a linen backing all ready laying around the shop. I bought it last year, and just haven't gotten to it yet.

I will create a new thread for every set of video clips I send out. The wife has been having trouble getting the video uploaded on Utube or Photobucket clearly. We had to break up our first segment, which was 13 minutes into smaller segments, and now we are having to get a video converter, to compress the videos down. This is the first time we’ve attempted to do something like this, so there has definitely been some learning going on. She works during the day, so the only time she has to work on it is at night. We weren’t expecting the problems, but we’ll get there. Just hang tight. Chris

Awesome. I have a suitable piece of osage thats been curin for a year or more in my basement.

A little off the topic of videos..... but still on archery.

I shoot from the chest using a 62lb recurve at 29". My style doesn't allow for a full draw like you would shooting from the cheek. I would imagine I'm pulling about 50lbs at 24-25" draw.

This is why I inquired about a shorter, "horseman's" bow. Any of you other guys relate to this?

I haven't shot in a few years but at one time could snap shoot rolling oranges up to 25yrds fairly consistantly... at 25-50yrds I had to switch to cheek and my groupings got spread out a bit. I was good at baggin rabbits, pheasant, raccons and squirrel...... never hunted deer I'm afraid..... hangs head in shame

Magnussen ... I can relate to you. My takedown recurve has roughly the same spec's ... 30". I've peen pulling back to my cheek so I can train for that extra power on pigs and maybe one day on the mighty Sambar ... one day <also hangs head in shame>
