That steel is ready to go as it is. No need to do anything to it except grind it into a knife and then heat treat and temper it. I would highly recommend having your first few blades heat treated by some one that is set up. There are lots of places you can send your blade to have it heat treated. I do heat treating for blade forums members as well.
O1 is a good steel but needs the control of a electric heat treat oven to really preform well. Not saying a forge can't be used to make O1 preform good but that's something better left to guys with experance doing so. Also there has been some talk that cryo treatment can help squeeze out a tad bit more performance.
