Mall Ninja SUB-HILT FOLDER: ID for criminal case

Let's make this a sticky thread for a while. It's difficult.... I've seen similar knives, I suppose we all have, but when I see knives of that kind I usually don't look at them closely....

I think it's actually a cheap, no-name, copy of the Cyclone. (Well, cheaper).
I haven't seen one of those in 10 years.

I haven't seen one of those in 10 years.

That is exactly the problem. The construction is evidently mid-1990s, and seems to have been totally abandoned by about 1995 -- replaced by other even cheaper construction.

And because it is such a cheap knife, it is not the sort of thing people bother to list on ebay, or to put out at shows, except maybe in their dollar boxes.

I would pay a hefty price for a close match to the evidence knife, but I need it THIS WEEK. So dig down in them junk boxes, folks.

I do not know if this could help you but go to www.gunbroker.com and search for / 3 Knife Sale Tiger,Gator,American Flag / under the knife section. There is a seller selling something very similar. He might be able to provide you with a manufacturer or guide you in the right direction. It does appear that he sells those type of poor quality knifes. Good luck.

C'mon guys, LOOK at the evidence photo. We discussed and dismissed this black knife in the first couple of posts, and again in the post just above.

I found the same black knife available on the market c1993. It is still around now.

The knife in question IS NOT STILL SOLD, at least not in the US, and not online. Unless you can find a leftover, old stock.

THE EVIDENCE KNIFE HAS CHROME PLATED BOLTSTERS, AND NO TOP QUILLON. IT HAS A SMALLER CAP BOLSTER. IT HAS A LONGER STRAIGHTER BLADE. IT HAS BIG TEETH IN THE BACK OF THE BLADE.

PLEASE LOOK AT THE PHOTO.

I am not saying that the knife that I posted is the same as the one that you are looking for. I am simply implying that one of these sellers might be familiar with the knife that you are searching for. They are accustomed to selling these types of steel made in China and one of them might recognize your knife. Now here is a copy of another posting that I saw today. It sure looks familiar but if I was able to read one of them boxes and you were to look up those makers you might find that particular style in their older orders. Good luck.

There are two knifes on this picture that I just posted that I swear look identical. The one on the center is almost identical except for the gold plated guard piece. The one in the bottom center looks the same without the serrated edges on top. If I was a betting man I would say that they were from the same manufacturer. Only problem is that the picture is not clear and I could not read the boxes.

Thank You Very Much!

That is indeed the right knife, and I just bought it.

Peppe... I owe you one!

I wonder if you can try contacting vendors of those knives to see where they get them from. You can go backwards in the supply chain and maybe end up at the manufacture.

That works when there are vendors, but this knife has evidently been off the market for more than a decade.

Anyway, now that I have bought the matching knife (complete with box), I am a happy camper. :D

I own the same knife, picked it up at a roadside odds and ends shop in AZ about 20 years ago (without a box). Interesting because it locks in a "T" shape like a large push dagger. Very slight brassy tint to bolsters and the fourth saw cut is a bit farther out the blade, otherwise looks identical, I can supply you with a close up scan if you need. Real cheap, had to reglue the handle pads. The only thing anywhere on the thing is "440 stainless taiwan".

Thanks!

Yes, could you scan the whole knife, both in the full open position, and the half-open position?

BRL...

Here are the two views in a low resolution jpeg format, I can supply them both to you in high res if you need.

Half open position actually locks and releases just like in full extended position.

Hope this helps.

Thank you very much for the scans. I passed them along to the attorney.

As far as I know, the first folderd that double as a push dagger was made by Ray Appleton of Colorado in the mid 1980s. He didn't bother to patent it, and soon his design was being copied in Japan, though with a much simpler mechanism. This knife uses that simplified Japanese mechanism, but a different larger design.

Hey there

I have been looking for this exact knife as well

Can you tell me what heading you found it under on gunbroker.com?

I dug through the hunting knife section but came up empty

Thanks in advance
