I'd have a beer with him ... and enjoy it.
Man Vs Wild is a television show. It is on the air for people to watch and enjoy. People rarely watch television to strictly learn new things. They watch television to combat boredom, get pure entertainment value, and even learn a few new things. Do you know how boring a survival show (or any show) would be if there was no script? A show on just survival would be the most boring show on television.... We all can agree that Bear does some crazy and unnecessary stuff but in all reality he does have a lot of things to teach us. We can all sit on our computers and couches and make fun of someone putting himself in great danger just to teach us a few survival techniques that we will probably forget! There was a show on Discovery called How Discovery Channel Saved My Life and there was a young boy who fell through the ice in a pond near his house. He remembered watching Bear jump in freezing cold water in the Arctic to show what to do to prevent hypothermia. With this in mind, Bear said to hold on tightly and stay relaxed. That is what ultimately saves the young boys life. I think that people should truly think about something before they jump on the I HATE BEAR!! Bandwagon.
I think we have all read about Richard Code's fate, but I don't recall ever hearing it having anything to do with Bears show.
The article you mention does a little Bear bashing ( Not much ) But then points out that Richard Code were a Stroud fan and that Stroud could not be blame for his death in any way.
Richard Code tried to imitate Les Stroud, not Bear.
Richard Code was not dumb enough to take Bear at face value.
But it seem he did mistake Survivor man for a "How to do" video, and not recognize it for being the entertainment show that it is.
I prefer Man, Woman, Wild....now if only Ruth England was as eager to naked as Bear Grylls is !

His show is incredibly irresponsible. He recommends danger over safety to his viewers. What kind of survival is that? In the end, he teaches people how to end up dead.
I don't "hate" either. I don't watch either show to learn necessarily. I take them for what they are, TV SHOWS.

It's all entertainment.
You don't learn survival from watching TV ... that's what real survival courses are for![]()
It's a goofy show, but it's fun and interesting.
In addition to being 21 SAS, BG climbed Everest as well as plenty of other endeavors that would break most men. A few posts in this thread essentially called BG a p-ssy. :jerkit:
I'm sure he's a real tough guy [insert a jerky boys soundbite here], has some great credentials, and some great accomplishments.
But the crap he does on his show is just that, crap. Its a joke.
There is no doubting Mykel Hawke is the real deal !
Captain Mykel Hawke has made a career of doing the unthinkable, from fighting rebels and training UN peacekeepers in war-torn Africa to running a war clinic on the front lines and establishing a combat medic school in Azerbaijan, to doing combat search and rescue during the height of Colombia's drug war. With over 20 years of combined military and survival experience, Mykel has traveled the world learning how to operate and survive in unique situations.
After passing through grueling training and assessment as an enlisted man in the Green Berets, Mykel later earned his commission as an officer in the Special Forces. Well-schooled in in telecommunications, intelligence operations, remote medical management, combat search and rescue, guerilla warfare, counter terrorism, security tactics, Mykel has also mastered several languages, and holds a Master's Degree. He's used all his training, including black belts in aikido and judo, to survive in eight different war zones, steamy jungles, arid deserts, arctic icecaps, turbulent oceans, and gritty urban environments.
Currently, Mykel runs a survival school known as SpecOps, where he teaches civilians how to handle the ultimate survival scenarios, and also does contract training for the US government. He recently published a book, titled Mykel Hawke's Green Beret Survival Manual: Essential Strategies For Shelter and Water, Food and Fire, Tools and Medicine, Navigation and Signaling, Survival Psychology and Getting Out Alive! about the survival lessons he's learned in the world's most treacherous locations. The book is already in its second edition.
He was in the TA SAS, Englands equivalent of the Reserves !
