Not to call you out Dwayne, but as a custom craftsman, isn't most of your business sight unseen, and based on your reputation instead? Would you like to have to post pictures of each sheath you sell before you are allowed to sell it? Or is a gentleman's agreement sufficient?
No problem at all, but I do try to take a picture of every notable sheath I make. But the main difference in what I do is by custom order, not a product sale. If I went to a production format where I make first then sell, then yes! I would most assuredly have to take pictures of what I am selling, otherwise how would the customer know what he is getting?
When I do custom carving I do try to show a design first for approval, they have to live with it. If I just did what I wanted then sent it to them I dont think I'd be around for much longer.
When I sell sheaths that are left over, or abandoned for non payment I take a picture of it so the buyer knows what he is looking at, otherwise how do they know if it will fill their needs? Lets say for example I am selling a pouch sheath............. uhm yea, whatsit look like, whatsit fit, how deep does it fit the knife, what color is it exactly, etc etc etc. Without pictures you got nothing.
When I sell knives, I take pictures, often lots of them trying to show condition and type. I've never sold a knife without showing it to the buyer first. I've NEVER bought a knife without seeing a picture first. This goes especially well when one is selling a hand made knife, a simple description just wont do. Doesn't matter if its a 50 dollar knife or a 2,000 dollar custom piece of art.
I hope this clears it up a little, I'm sleepy right now so if I missed anything please feel free to ask away! I've been selling, trading, and a professional sheath maker here since 2001, and doing leather and knife trading in general since the early 90's.
EDIT: heh heh heh 10,666th post, I picked a doozie!
