Mandatory pictures of items in sales threads?

Yes. Pics AND specs. Sellers should realize that the more info they give, the better the chances of a quick sale.

Specs, hahaha. If I had a penny for everytime someone asked me for specs(not here thank goodness), Id be a hundrednaire. 9/10 times a simple 2 sec google search answers that question. If that affects my sales in a neg fasion (not postin specs) ohwell. Want me to wipe ya too? Sure, send a money order. Oh wait, not convenient, that sux.

eta-anyone who doesnt realize something so simpleton/obvious, obviously doesnt care. How ever did we survive without the internet or cellphones. I wish I was born 50 years sooner, this instant grat is getting old

No.

Once again, I will say that 'less is more'. We do not need more rules for The Exchange.

As one of the original Exchange moderators, I agreed on a 'keep it simple' rules package, and that the transactions are between the individuals with Bladeforums providing the venue, and interfering as little as possible. I will continue to champion this until the day I leave Bladeforums. It isn't the staff's job to tell grown men and women how to conduct their business. If someone doesn't post pics in their for sale or even a for trade thread, then the buyer/trader can, on their own, request pics, buy it sight unseen and take a chance, or move on without making a deal.

No different, really, than an ad in the local nickel paper.

Here, here!

The more I think about it I have to agree that I don't think pictures in sales or trade threads should be mandatory. Even though it would be nice. Buyer beware and if you get burned because you bought a knife sight unseen then don't go complaining about it. I think that's "fair" enough.

I will say though that without them, especially in sales ad's, you won't be getting my business unless I see pic's one way or the other..

I'd much prefer that if any one rule would be added to the current exchange forum, that would be that the use of the gift option, asking buyers to pay the Paypal fee's and other violations of PP's terms of service not be allowed.

I think that would go a long way in making the exchange a better place for all of us.

I won't buy sight unseen but IMO rules should be kept to a minimum, so not mandatory. A seller that doesn't use them will likely get much less interest, let that be the force to drive his behaviour.

Then why does the site have so many rules if the goal is to keep it simple? This site's set of rules is far from simple. Yet in the one place where people engage in sales there aren't enough specific rules, which leads to dozens of complaints every month about people getting scammed or receiving a knife in a condition other than the one that was listed in the for sale thread, among other numerous complaints. Requiring pictures and specs would give buyers and sellers a small amount of protection. It shows the condition of the knife instead of relying on mere descriptions that are often insufficient and/or flat out wrong.

It takes 5 minutes to take a few pictures, upload them to a hosting site, copy paste the links to the for sale thread, and then copy paste a link to the specs from the manufacturer's site. This is beyond simple to do. Claiming that this is just more rules and that complicates things is a poor reason to not implement it as a policy. Yeah, it would be another rule, but it would be a good rule.

This isn't a nickel paper. It's the internet in 2013. If people don't know how to take and upload pictures by now they can learn. Ignorance is no excuse not to implement a good rule.

I disagree.

The site has a lot of rules, in part to support the paid membership structure that supports the site. These and other rules have grown out of a need to run the operation, like segregating profanity and politics from the other subforums.

Participating in the Exchange is in the hands of the buyers and sellers and traders themselves. If they cannot understand good procedure otherwise, they can read the FEEDBACK forum stickies. These cover all these topics of protecting themselves from bad deals.

We cannot protect people who won't take the trouble to study the market.

Esav is spot on as usual.

Again, I'll reiterate; Bladeforums provides the venue. It is up to the participating individuals to do their due diligence on each and every transaction. It is not our job to legislate each and every selling/buying/trading transaction.
