".. If this is just some general rant against marketing and advertising, then I guess so be it... but EKI is hardly the advertising powerhouse in the knife industry.

I have nothing against EKI in particular. Simply a general comment on the state of the industry in general. Jeez, guys, lighten up. It's just a knife company. One would think I was insulting your sister or kicking your dog. LOL

I wasn't heavy or worked up; I get a general comment--but you made it in a thread about a new EKI knife, in the Emerson subform... and seemed to harshly call out the people who work there for no real reason.

So which Emerson do you own?

I don't own any Emersons. I wasn't aware it was a requirement to post on your forum. It was a comment on ADVERTISING!

This is not necessarily my forum... but I do own Emersons... now the real question is, if you don't own any Emersons, and by the sound of it do not intend to, why are you posting in this thread, in this subforum?

I took your comment as a general opinion on marketing in the knife industry and I completely agree with you. That goes for other products as well. People name them these long super duper names but when it comes down to it, it's just a cutting tool made from similar materials, using the same building techniques. I hope you try out an Emerson some day, if not a Kershaw collab. You won't regret it, but if you do, the secondary market is so hot that someone will take it off your hands.

Well, judging from your confrontational attitude, one might assume that it is your forum. Did I miss a rule somewhere? Are you only supposed to post in forums in which are a member....or own one of the knives? I simply read the post under new posts, which you may not be aware includes info from ALL forums. I simply replied to the post with MY opinion, and you seem to have taken it as an attack on Emerson. And your personal mission is to tell me how wrong and full of crap I am. I don't need your permission to post my opinion in any of the forums here.

Too much chest bumping going on now ;) (ducking for cover).
I happen to agree that marketing smoke-and-mirrors is ubiquitous, but everyone has their own take on form and function.
I think the kryptek handles are visually ok but I personally would not spend extra for them (whoever is making up the names). This one is nice enough (giraffe skin? ;)), but the thing about Emersons I always come back to is how they feel in hand. Ergos not matched by most other makers. I even like the G10 variant Emerson uses, very secure grip. And my hand can barely tell the difference between tan and black!

Thank you! Glad to know that someone understands. I own a lot of knives, so may very well buy an Emerson at some point, but I tend to save my more expensive purchases for fixed blades. $285 is a lot of money to a guy on S.S.,. I'm sure Emerson will do very well with this knife, as the materials are good and it is quite beautiful. Doubtful Emerson will miss my business enough to change their marketing strategy, or file bankruptcy. LOL

No need for hard feelings, nothing personal, and in the end, we all are here because we have a thing for knives.

But let me be clear--I've read many posts from guys who denigrate EKI without having owned/ used one. In your case, your comment was on marketing in general but in was done in a particular place--which looked a lot like a particular (and unfounded) criticism. The attack I took issue with was against the "marketing dickheads" you claimed to be at EKI (which the specificity of your post seemed to imply)--this did not seem like a criticism of a particular knife, or EKI as a company. I just said that that was harsh because there are nice people over there. If you were talking about some other "marketing dickheads," well then so be it.

Post where you want, say what you want--that is your choice. Of course you don't need my permission... but don't get up-tight about someone saying don't call some nice people that you don't even know "dickheads." I don't need anyone's permission to call that out as offensive or unwarranted either.

So, try an Emerson... maybe it will live put to the billing for you. I'm happy with mine.

Sorry for the side-track Rayster... like I said before, I'd love to see that pattern in black/midnight blue/grey colors!

Yeah, I'd go for it--close enough to the classic black to "keep to the formula" and camo enough to make it different...

Let ME be clear. It was GENERAL remark regarding the knife industry as a whole. After having said that 2-3 times, I don't know how I can make it any clearer. It was apparently clear to your Emerson rep. You're the only one who got his back up over my relatively innocuous, if undiplomatic, remark....nothing personal as I know neither you nor anyone at Emerson ;)

Don't you think it's enough already? You know, with all the underlines, italics, and caps... yeah, ok, it was a general comment but it was in a thread about a specific knife from a specific company in that company's subforum. So, it did not seem so general... and I'd call this kind of thing out regardless--I've done so in the politics subform, in general, etc... I say this without the underlines, italics, and caps that typically mean yelling at another person in text... I've been nothing but even-handed in these exchanges, and now... now it's no longer worth the effort.

Dixi et salvavi animam meam.

Ichor, what you in all likelihood don't know is there is a frequency of "trolling" in this subforum that helps no one and annoys the regulars here. To that end, EmersonRep tries to corral all involved towards positive discourse. I take you at your word regarding the method and intent of your first post; just try to understand the context in which the regulars (I'm unabashedly one) are operating.

In the end, it's all good. My only suggestion is to consider the context that a specific maker subforum involves as opposed to the General subforum. Of course your opinion may be stated, as may the response(s).

You're the one who can't let it go. Regardless of how you view Internet etiquette, the Underlines, italics, and caps were for emphasis, as it seemed impossible for you to get the point. If I thought yelling would have helped, I'd have done that too. You're just bound and determined to show the outlander that he can't come into your forum and stir your pot. Are you self appointed, or do you have some official status as forum policeman? Live with it, as I'm done. Oh, my thanks to you and Karl Marx for the Latin lesson.

Ichor, you are an odd bird... latin (from Catholicism actually) yes... Marx??? Man, you are a special one, and you've chosen to grace us here in the EKI subform with your presence... well done sir.

I get the point. You wanted to rip on EKI for their use of military and quasi-militaristic sounding names and images associated with their knives... thus the "marketing assholes" comment, which you dressed up as a general comment, but it was actually directed toward EKI--that's my suspicion. You came to do that here, in a thread about a new knife with a camo pattern... since you don't own an Emerson, nor do you express a desire to own one, you are here to rip on it--that's my suspicion. I think you are one of those guys who gets off on doing stuff like that... again, that is my suspicion...

BUT, I MAY BE WRONG... PLEASE FORGIVE ME IF I MISUNDERSTOOD YOUR OTHERWISE INNOCUOUS COMMENTS AS PURPOSEFULLY OFFENSIVE... BUT I JUST DON'T LIKE IT WHEN GUYS COME HERE AND TALK NASTY TALK ABOUT THINGS THEY HAVE NO CLUE ABOUT...

So don't get in a huff about being called out... you lit the green light. I'm all about the "go"...

Well I came here hoping to see people talking about the knife..I see that's not the case... however, I think it'd be super cool to see grey handles. Or handles that are all black but have a pattern..

Hey Carter. Ernest is working it. You just might see the pattern you seek.
rolf

Sorry for all the bad noise fellas, was not my intent, not initially at least.

An Roadie with a dark kryptek pattern that carried over into the blade coating would be pretty cool in my book... A super 7 too.
