Just picked up a brand new Spyderco Manix 1 (95). It looks like this knife is fairly rare. Any thoughts on how it stacks up against the newer Sprint Run Manix 2?

With everybody having loved the Manix, and it being discontinued, I would suggest you stick it in a safe and try to sell it (or wait to sell it). If you can keep it in NIB condition, collectors for the Manix will go batty for it.

I like the original C95 Manix way more than the new Manix 2. They were "tanks" and will take a beating. Their locks are extremely strong. Only draw back imho is they are a little large for pocket carry but not unmanageable.

Does anyone know if they are re-issuing the Manix or coming out with a Manix 2 XL next year?

i've got one also...the plain edge (95) version is definitely a keeper....took me awhile to find one but i did find a place a couple of years back that had two left and i bought both...sold one for double the original price...don't use it, i can only see the price increasing.

Well, if you plan on never using the knife it stacks up about the same as the others that will never get used. That is from a strictly theoretical perspective of course. ;)

I said that, with it's primary purpose as a self defense weapon, my Manix will probably never get used. That's not the same as putting in a display case where it's functionality is utterly moot. The fact that it could be called upon for self defense makes it's functionality vitally relevant.

Ps. I love the extra finger groove in the blade that allows one to choke up. That essentially makes it two knives in one... both a modestly long tactical blade as well as a shorter, more easily manageable, daily use blade.

My Manix is my everyday carry knife. It's the best folder that I've ever owned. It's strong, solid, and feels great in my hand. I had no idea about it's rarity and collector value until I read this thread. Hmm... I'll continue to carry it, as I figure I bought it to use it.

The C95 Manix is a larger knife than the Manix 2 and is built like a tank. Thicker blade, MBC rated lock, if you can't trust it for SD, stick to full tang fixed blades.

It's as reliable and strong as folders, come, man. I'm super jealous. I had one and sold it in a lapse of reason.

Seriously, the original Manix is pretty much as good as it gets for a big, heavy duty knife.

I don't know what it is about that extra finger choil but every time I pick the knife up my hand just wants to go there. It feels so "right" it actually makes you want to find something to cut.

This is obviously my first Spyderco. I only just noticed the auxiliary finger choil I like so much is quite common on a number of their designs.

Yes, many people do not understand Spyderco until they have truly held and used one of their more ergonomic models. Some people don't care for it, but I and many others find the in house designed knives line the Native, Caly, Kiwi and Manix to be head and shoulders about the rest when it comes to feel.

One thing is for sure, and I can't really put my finger on it, but this knife has a BIZARRE attraction. I just can't keep my hands off it. I'm starting to understand the mystique of these strangely shaped knives.

I have most of my knives in display cases for viewing pleasure, but I will not hesitate to use any of them in self defense, if I need. Does it make their functionality vitally relevant? At least partially? :):D

All my knives are for back up self defense so it's unlikely that they will ever get used.

I love this a lot. If you do not mind I will put this in my sig line. Seriously. Of cause mentioning the author. Credit is yours. :)
