Manix 2 110v LTWT - best cutting tool on the market?

Got mine on Monday and it's been in my pocket since. Even in my "lounging around the house" basketball shorts, I barely notice it's there.

I'm so pleased with this knife. Just another excellent Spyderco. They are putting out some simply amazing knives the last few years.
Mine arrived very sharp. I plan to throw it on the EPA this weekend, but that's just for my own amusement. It doesn't need it at all.
I'm tempted to NOT sharpen it and just see how long it goes out of the box. Like how many sticks I can carve up with it before I feel like it needs to be sharpened...

You understand that's totally, completely, 100% irrelevant to my question, right? I was asking if anybody else's came like mine did, not where to get in touch with the company.

Actually it is relevant, if you have an issue, contact the Company..... ;)

Or at the very least post in their Sub Forum here.....

Except, I don't want to contact the company, and there was utterly nothing in my post to suggest I did. I didn't say I wanted to send my knife for sharpening, my question was to the people who bought the knife. I wanted to know if it was just my knife that came dull, or if Spyderco was perhaps not sharpening this one to their usual standards. I got my Endura and my BD1 Manix 2 the same day, and both of them were extremely sharp(as were all the other Spyderco knives I've bought), so I wondered if the S110V wasn't getting the same level of sharpening as their other steels get or if I just happened to get one that missed a step. Based on the other replies, it seems to be the latter.

Does anyone know if the blade from one of these could be swapped into an original manix2 body? I got a manix2 in DLC 154CM back when they first came out but the grind is just too thick for my liking nowadays. Would be interesting to see if I could put together a frankenmanix.
I don't think it can without messing up the knife. I tried and tried to get the blade out and had no luck.

I wonder if someone will do a "how to" on converting a pinned version to one with screws and hardware.

Yeah, cept I don't really like posting on manufacture subforums cause they tend to bring out the fanboys who treat any criticism of the company's product as if you just killed their dog and beat their wife, no thanks, not for me.

I doubt it would be a problem with something like this....

And the Manufacturer would actually see the thread and the post..... And that's what I was getting at....

Mine is shaving sharp too. I was going to wait a couple of weeks for it to wear in before loosening the pivot, but just backed it off a hair, and now it falls shut like my other non-DLC Manixes, flat side down, just a few degrees away from horizontal to the ground.

So it looks like the main complaint so far is that those who love to sharpen their knives won't get to do it often enough?

The last time I cared about receiving a dull knife was probably in 1998 when I was 12? If you're into knives, getting your sharpening rig down pat is a good idea. In this case, even a little touch up in a simple Sharpmaker should get it right.

Spyderco does pay attention to sending sharp blades out, more so than other companies, S110v is a heck of a steel to work with which takes extra man hours and it kills belts much faster so I'm not too surprised that 100% aren't leaving the factory shaving sharp.

I do know that not everyone sees it like me and some really care about out of the box sharpness, it's a sign of a company paying attention to detail- fair enough but if you're into knives deep enough to be buying steels like S110v, you should know how to sharpen by now making this a non issue and if not, it's reason enough to send it out for a free sharpening also.

The only time I actually care is if a huge blade comes dull (which I can't really sharpen, like say a Rucki). Otherwise, it's gonna get re-profiled eventually anyways.

Many people including myself consider it a negative when a knife comes with a bad edge. It's not a big deal though. And neither is sharing one's disappointment and asking if others experienced the same.

Mine came with an evenly sharp edge as did my recently received Stretch Super Blue and PM2 Sprint. I've had a sub-par factory edge from Spyderco before but it has been a rare occurence.

Mine came pretty sharp but barely shaving, its no biggie though I was gonna touch it up on the sharpmaker anyways. Im pretty surprised how solid the knife is without liners, just a little pivot adjustment and it swings shut with no effort like my other golden spydies but still locks up well with only some tiny play. This is one of the best high value knives since ever.

I know how to change a tire, but when I buy a new car I expect the tires to come aired up.

I've bought some Spyderco's used, of the 14 or so that I've bought new, every one was sharp out of the box.

I would be a little unhappy if a knife came dull out of the box, but if it is a knife that I intend to use I would just sharpen it myself and go on. If it was a knife that I wasn't sure of and I might decide to sell it later, I would not sharpen it right away.

Awe that's smart :) And I agree. That's why I dont buy pencils anymore, they never come sharpened  And how come my Iphone didnt come charged?

That's good that we share our experiences here. So what are you gonna do abut the dull knife that you got? Are you gonna send it in? You live near Stockton CA, I'll sharpen it for you.

The rest of my post:

So since you got a "new car" without "air on the tires"... Which matches so perfectly with knives...What's the desired solution here? Everyone is aware of it now, thank you... What do we do now? Like I said, I understand that a dull knife certainly isn't a positive so it is a negative... Hopefully Spyderco reads this thread so they can fix this.

No, I'll do it. I hate sharpening, so having to do it even with a new out of box knife is just a mild annoyance, but since boxing it up and sending it in is even less appealing(since that requires going to the post office), I'll take care of it myself. I know it's just a one off, so it's not gonna affect my views of the company, sometimes a knife just sneaks past QC, it happens with every company. Just wanted to make sure that's all it was, and not a new trend.

Ideally for a user you should sharpen a new knife out of the box before using it removing the factory edge and enough steel to get to fresh steel and or reprofiling if wanted or needed.

That's across the board for all factory knives.

That's a waste of time and totally unnecessary for the vast majority of folding knives I've bought, be they Spyderco, Kershaw, Cold Steel, or whatever. Fixed blades and machetes OTOH, yeah, a lot of those I can agree with.
