Manix 2 MOD JOB

Some of ya'll's comments might have chased him away forever. I hope not for his sake. He only has 27 posts to his name, a newbie so to speak. There's a lot of knowledge to be gained from this site, I hope his feelings aren't hurt and that he comes back to absorb some info. on knives etc.

If his skin is that thin he should probably stay away.

Josh you really need to chill man !!! From busting this poor guys balls to saying Scott cooks knives aren't customs !!! Just relax man , and save the arguing for the political forum :D

I don't believe they are customs, but this is a discussion for that thread or PM's. Don't make personal interjections on someone else's thread. You're gold, PM's do fine.

I dont think it looks so bad, besides if its his and he wanted to do it more power to him. Its is his first and i bet not his last, so dremel away and keep an open mind.
P.S. he didnt post it in Whine and Cheese so DONT whine.

wouldnt the cuts in the blade cause the blade to be significantly weaker?

Do we need to really bicker about this sort of stuff? Insulting the OP isn't being constructive at all, instead it's a d********g move. I don't like the looks of the mod either, but it's his money and if the mod makes him happy, so be it.

Boy, oh boy. It simply amazes me how some people are overly critical of another person's work.

Josh K....I'm calling you out on this one.....you stepped over the line. Rather than state that you don't care for it you had to insult the guy by telling him to stay away of tools. Smooth move. And trying to defend yourself and making a point? Laughable at best.

I like it alot, the G-10 has like a "stitched" look and the grooves on the spine of the blade are clean and even and give it an eccentric look.

for your first mod i think it looks good, it isnt exactly my taste BUT if you like it that is all that matters. use it in good health

Must have been a lot of work. Personally, I like the knife the way it is, but hey, it's your knife! ;)

I have to agree that I think some people where way to critical of this guys work, while many agree that we dont care for it its his knife and his first mod, perhapse suggest things to improve rather then rip him down and if u cant do that better off staying quiet or at least be respectfull he didnt mod your knife.

Well first I would like to say thank you for all the feedback concerning my knife. This is how you learn. This is not the only Manix 2 knife that I own. I like the knife so I thought I would try and make some modifications to it. I also posted on Spyderco’s forum under their knife mod area. This is where I got the idea of making modifications. A lot of people want to learn how to work on knives, and sadly the only way they can learn is to work on their own knives. Good, Bad, and Ugly it all comes in the learning stage. This is my knife; I own it and I made the mods. Yes, I used a dremel tool and I used a file. I didn’t say that my work was a work of art or even complicated at that. It is a start that is all it is. I like it, not because it is the best mod ever, but because I had the balls enough to try. I am not a professional and I am not soliciting my work or asking you to send me your knives to work on. For those of you that left all the hate mail grow up. I don’t know what kind of work you have ever made but I am sure you had to start somewhere. Some say leave this work to those with the experience. I would guess that most people with experience would say that starting out there are always bumps and bruises in their work. That is why there is a beginning to all things.

If you don’t like it say so, don’t be rude about it. It is not me that looks like the dumb A$$ here.

Well in my opinion you didn't ruin the knife but you didn't improve it either. You sure did personalize it though!

"Good judgment comes from experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgment." - Will Rogers.

At least the OP had the balls to actually try to accomplish something that he wanted. Looks to me like a good start. I'm sure Chris Reeve and the others could pull some trial and error pieces off the shelf that we'd all laugh at.

I agree with everything you said. Everybody has to start something, somewhere. If you like the profile of the Manix 2, maybe it could had been better if you started practicing with a Tenacious, since they have very similar profiles, or even anything that is more affordable.

I am new to knives and my first folder is the Tenacious. I have other knives now and a few coming. I am trying to learn to sharpen the correct way and I'm practicing on my beater knife until I get it right. This way, if I messed up the edge or whatever, it doesn't hurt so much :p

Anyway, good luck in your learnings and future projects :)

Your are right, it would be better to practice on cheaper knives, but that would be more money out of my pocket spent on knives for something I already had in my drawer.

What gets me a little upset with this entire post is the mindset that some people are in. They are upset that did what I did. I didn't do it for them I did it for me. It was my money spent and the knife functions great. My question is what do they think about those people who make video destroying knives by using them in a way that most people wouldn't. There is such a video for the Manix 2. It was purchased brand new and is now broken and unable to be used as it was designed. Should we as forum members bash that guy for destroying a perfectly good knife. No, we all learn from such testing, just as I learned from my mod.

That being said, The knife is not really my taste but it shows you that you are capable of using these tools and that you are definitely creative.

As for the people that think they look cool by personally trashing you, well they do.. That is they look cool to the rest of the guys that come here looking to act like they own the place, that their opinions are the only ones that matter and that the money they paid for memberships is more valuable than the money that others have paid for theirs.

What's valuable is that we can come here, see what you have done and file it for ideas of what me might/might not do.

Thanks for sharing this.
