Manix 2 MOD JOB

The mods are kind of hard to see clearly in the pics, so I’m not sure how well they’re done. I think they look pretty cool though. It’s a little loud for me personally, but I can see what the appeal is. The jimping on the stock Manix 2 really sparkles and these mods accentuate that effect.

There’s no reason for people to become apoplectic when they encounter a mod they don’t like. You can just shrug and move on to the next post if you don’t have anything to add. I think it’s fun to see modded Spydercos. Thanks to the OP for posting!

I don't care for all the stock jimping on the Manix2, so I don't think your mod in any way ruins a good knife. I think it's taking the ball and running with it. Needs better pix, but I think your work looks pretty good compared to some jobs I've seen. Pretty good for a first mod job. I wouldn't expect everyone to agree, heck I even like the Busse Nuclear Seahorse so my aesthetics might be suspect. ;)

I started out just drying a little file work and polishing of the ball lock bar. I then decided to make a pattern on the back of the inner scales. I put notches in the blade and polished all the metal pieces. The last thing I did that I think makes the knife so bad for some is the dremel tool work on the scales. It looks better in person and I can see how others would not like it. The honest truth is there is no reason to mod a knife and one such as this is made to perfection in my opinion and doesn’t need improving. I was trying to be creative with an extra knife that I had and I think that I succeeded at that.
I like this Forum. I spend time everyday now looking at something. I know that there are people out there that think they own the world but that is only true in their little world. It is easy to hide behind a computer and type tuff. We all know the truth in life that opinions are like a$$ holes, we all have one and sometimes they stink. It is sad when some people think theirs smells like roses.

Your are right, it would be better to practice on cheaper knives, but that would be more money out of my pocket spent on knives for something I already had in my drawer.

What gets me a little upset with this entire post is the mindset that some people are in. They are upset that did what I did. I didn't do it for them I did it for me. It was my money spent and the knife functions great. My question is what do they think about those people who make video destroying knives by using them in a way that most people wouldn't. There is such a video for the Manix 2. It was purchased brand new and is now broken and unable to be used as it was designed. Should we as forum members bash that guy for destroying a perfectly good knife. No, we all learn from such testing, just as I learned from my mod.

Yeah, I saw some of those vids. Its crazy what they're doing to folders but you're right. We learned from them. If I come across those task that they were doing, I'm sure I'll be better served with fixed blades. I won't even try them on my folders ;)

I appreciate all comments good or bad. Other than making no modifications at all what do you like or what would you do different?

I'm under no illusions about my opinion and I stand firmly behind it.

Loose the handle cuts, alter the blade ones. The blade ones are more then half bad but could look better.

Josh your opinion counts. You don't like the mod on my knife and that is okay. The shocker to me is how personal you were in expressing your opinion. There are over 500 views on this post. I am sure that a great deal of those people don't like what I did and they didn't leave a post. Some who didn't like it left simple comments. I am not looking for enemies at this forum. I am looking for people that can make me better, or that I can make better for what ever reason we have. I like your work on lanyards. You have talent. I bet you didn't tie that monkey fist correctly without error the first time.

All is forgiven on my part I hope you can let it pass.

Seems a little overboard for my taste! But hey whatever floats your boat!

Good job mustering up the balls to make your first knife mod. As you can see we have some wierdos around here but you seem to have a clear head on your shoulders and can see through the bull. Personally I'm more of a minimalist when it comes to these kinds of knife mods. I would have probably just left it with a bit of file work on the backspacer. I usually am not much for filework on production knives, especially if they already have jimping. The combination of the jimping and the filework just don't mix very well in my eyes. Although not an asthetic mod, I have wanted to skeletonize the liners on the Manix 2. The sprint run Manix 2's have holes drilled into the liners to cut down the weight considerably, yet they are done in such a pattern that keeps them very strong. If you want to venture a bit further, and or decide that you don't like the cuts that you put into the g10, you can order scale sized sheets of it in many colors and patterns and make a new set yourself however you want. Anyway good job and keep the the work.

Hey, if he posted it here, then he should be (and seems to have been) prepared for the criticism. This is a discussion forum, not Sesame Street.

Of course, the negatives don't need to be personal.

Yeah, I'm kinda regretting sharing my opinion, not because I don't stand behind it, but because of the nastiness and semi-personal comments before and after. There's no need to tell someone they should be kept away from power equipment, or should never mod a knife again, or what have you. Just say you don't like it.

Spoilers and rims would be polishing the blade and maybe sanding the scales.

Sorry, but no.

To the OP, if you like it, kudos. Don't let anyone make you enjoy your knife less because of what they said.

Bigshowrenfro, I think knife mods. are a good thing. I don't think I own a single knife that doesn't have some mod. done to it. Some more than others Good for you to try. I have had to adopt a "think twice and cut once" rule. I have done some monsterous things to knives in the past! ;).

Now to answer your question, 1-on the blade(if it was me) I would try to scallop the notches you have made.(probably would have stayed off the hollow ground part) Like the concept though. 2- I like what you did on the inside of the G-10. Liners, etc. 3- on the G-10, it looks a bit busy above the lock and on the bottom of handle. I might try to do the scallop thing to the top/back of G-10.

I find nothing wrong with knives left as is from the factory, but i prefer my knives to have my personal touch. With this said, I repeat, good for you to strive for something different!

Just looked at what I called the busy parts. You could try to even out the length of all the slots by laying out some guide to govern your cuts. I was thinking tape or something along that line.

Not my cup of tea. But...

Once I buy a knife, it's mine to do with as I damn well please. Nobody else has to like what I do with it. On the other hand, folks who don't like it don't need to be overly blunt. Same goes for everyone else. There are, however, some criticisms that are always valid, things that affect safety or can shorten the useful life of an item. In this case, I'd question the advisability of deep, closely spaced cuts in the G-10. G-10 is pretty strong, but not indestructable, and those small "tabs" of it left between the cuts may break off fairly easily.

If you really want to grind on the Manix2, you should start(and end:D) with the liners. The s90v sprint run feels so much better with skeletonized liners.

Ask the guy above me... he handled it.

I remember a thread where a poster asked makers and modders to show their first/ugliest work. not many takers. good for you for stepping up.

not my cup of tea but I also don't like the baby manix in the first place so who am i to judge
