Manix 2 XL, My first impressions.

No, this was a military tent guy wire, very thick and very strong. I have, however, used my 2 XL to cut through several industrial electrical cords.

I have The milled out version, it seems to flex easy. does anyone else have this problem? Also very little side to side play, is that normal?

What do you mean by flex? I recently purchased two bad ones (the pivot bushings were smaller than on my other manix's making them difficult to open with out having blade play) both had AM date codes. I ended up sending them back.

I got a Manix 2 XL as part of a group purchase and figured it would be catch & release. After playing around with it I decided to keep it and put the upcoming S90V version on my buy list.

What a great full sized knife and amazing value for the money.Just thinking about the sprints is getting me excited.A must-have in my book!

I am quite pleased with my Manix XL - more so than I anticipated. Like Brother Kreole said, its relative thinness belies its other large dimensions, and it carries quite easily. You do get a good amount of handle sticking out of your pocket, somewhat reminiscent of an Emerson CQC-13 in that regard. At about half the price of the Spyderco Starmate, for example (my XL was $93 shipped), it is a relative bargain (and it makes me wonder whats going on with the Starmate pricing, though the presumed Terzuola royalty accounts for some of that). I wish it would carry tip down, but thats not a deal breaker. When everything is considered, from price to utility to ease of carry, I put it in the upper echelon of the Spyderco lineup. I don't expect it to ever receive the same love as the Para 2 and other Big Boys from the Spyderco lineup, but it will hold its own against anything in its genre.

When I said flex, If you hold the pivot end in one hand and the but in the other and twist in opposite directions the blade centering moves from side to side very easily. It seems weak.

Oh I see. I was already so disappointed with the performance of the of the other two I just stuck them back in the box and sent them back without examining them any further. I did notice the blade centering was off in both, but it did not effect their function.

I just took it apart to clean and lube. After everything was tightened down, like magic the tip is centered. I guess the scales were shifted a bit or something.

The Manix 2 is one of the only knives I've ever had apart that didn't take any effort at all to center the blade when putting it back together. I don't follow any kind of sequence when tightening, I just snug it all down and the blade is dead center every time.

I ordered one the other day, little bigger blade than I usually prefer but checking it out anyway.

Wish they would have used a thicker blade for a knife this size.

I have the Manix 2 and the Para 2.
The Manix XL is tempting, but how much better is it than the M2?
It doesn't seem to be that much larger.

When I received my XL and compared it to the Para 2, I was impressed by how much knife you are getting for the money. The fit and finish and smooth deployment were especially suprising. It seemed equal to the military as well.
I have since decided that there is no point in spending the money for a ZT. The XL is as big as I want to carry. It's actually too big but there is no way I will find another knife like this for only $92. Never. I can't believe this knife is not selling out like the Para2. I hope they make a digicam version before people realize how great a deal this is, and the price soars over $100.
