Manly Comrade knife. Made in Bulgaria.

Says the guy who does not own and has not seen the knife !!! :D

I kind of suspect that, too. That's why I asked for specifics.

Veso, thanks for all the pics. Fit and finish appear excellent.:cool:

edit: Actually, I guess he may well have experience with this knife. He has a bunch of vids at youtube about Manly knives (if it's the same Stefan Wolf). If that's the case, my apologies for doubting you, Stefan.

I only skimmed the thread, is "Manly" the company who made the knife?
It looks perfect to me. Well almost. I'd prefer a lock, but with a back spring like that I may just be interested enough to bite...

looks interesting, their other folders don't look bad either, but what is the little tab that comes out on the mark side?

The tab is the lock. You pull it out to close the blade.

Got hte call today :-) Mine is comming in tomorrow. It is going to be an interesting day!
I too find the fit and finish on the pics i've seen very good. We'll see when i have it in hand.

confucius37, I don't think that buying these in USA is impossible. Ask the manufacturers. If it is too hard... well .... for anyone crasy about knifes as we are here, a good blade is just another reason to take a long and interresting journey ;-).

At first excuse my poor English...

Unfortunately you're wrong, my old acquaintance - the last months I sharpened 4 pieces of Manley Comrade...

What specific issues have you found? For example: blade play? off-center blade? weak back spring, uneven blade grinds? etc. One-handed opening isn't an issue for me, since I see this as a traditional slip joint mechanism with modern styling, but these other issues do concern me.

Irregular grinds and gaps between the liners and the back spacer/spring of the knife.

I kind of suspect that, too. That's why I asked for specifics.

The old Manly design is pretty handsome /slick and on the gentleman's side knife / - the new Comrade design is to simple, to rough - lacks smooth and flowing lines, harmony between blade and handle....
Тhe idea of the knife is not bad at all, but somewhere along the way the designers have missed the opportunity to create a simple, beautiful and useful knife...

Do not get me wrong - I am happy about the attempts of Bulgarian knife company to produce good and quality knives but the truth is - they have a long way to walk beffor making a really good knife...

Thanks for the reply, Stefan.

ierror, I look forward to hearing how yours is when it comes in.

I don't know why these knives couldn't be shipped here straight from Manly, though shipping costs would probably easily double the price, taking away some of the value.

I got it today. I find it perfect. Sharp tip, extremely sharp blade. Goes throught cardboard like butter. The clip does not create hotspots in the hand. I get a full four finger good grip on it.
The spring is strong and there is a stop at 90 degrees of openning. the tip is like a needle. The blade cuts like a scalpel. Very comfortable handle and the weight is low... In the pocket of my working jacket i have to touch it to check if it is there. It is not like a feather, but it is very light in the pocket. The handles are slimm with good traction of the g10.

Openning is two hand operation.
Almost no bladeplay side to side, and the pivot is adjustible.

No loose ends in the fit and finish on mine. No gaps, no irregular grinding. The tip is slightly (i mean not really noticeable) closer to one of the liners, but the blade does not touch any of the liners or back spring when closed.

After workng on 10 cardboard boxes (Cutting the sides to reduce height) and few other materials that were not that hard on the blade, i can see only one micro-shiny spot on the blade. It is still shaving sharp. We'll see how long it can stay sharp.

I like it. I really like it. All i can say now as i'm very tired...

No lanyard hole... bit a groove is cut in the pocket clip and i'll try to use tat to attach a lanyard.

Long term use report after few weeks :-)

I never would have considered Bulgaria, as a cutlery manufacturer had no clue. They look nice enough for the price, I wish I could get an example stateside. Very cool knives.

Hello everybody, there is one general issue to buy single knives from Bulgaria - USPS - they refuse to ship knives to US via air and also refused to sign some international postal services treaty, thus nobody from EU can send it via registered mail. This way the only option is courier, cost is 60-100 $. I learned this in the hard way, when traded one knife in another forum.

On the topic - I have 2 of these knives and can confirm that make and finish are excellent, the above mentioned problems can not be seen with eye, may be under microscope?

Ouch! :grumpy: Sounds like LG&M's suggestion of a group buy would be the only way to go.

thanks!
it's a fact that bulgaria made some pretty good quality small arms;
so a less complex pocket knife should be no problem at their end.

Very true. I truly regret selling my Bulgarian Makarov several years ago.:( A very solid little pistol.
