I just bought a mantis church key and I was wondering if anybody had any experience with mantis knives. I'm not really worried about this knife because even if it sucks terribly I still have a bottle opener which I needed to buy any way

Mantis is for people who think that a real knife is not enough.
The kind of guys who want a black belt without taking any lesson.
Heroes without adventures.
In my humble opinion.
:D

If you like the knife, that's cool.:thumbup:

Mantis and it's owner have a poor reputation overall here at BF. :thumbdn::thumbdn:

The owner organized a spamming of knife sites a couple of years ago. BF was one of the targets. He's also been busted a couple of times for advertising one blade alloy and delivering something quite different.

Like you said, you have a bottle opener at very least.

As long as you are not looking for the Mantis fan club, you are doing good!

they make a laser guided knife. :(

they have this thing about fixing things that arent broke until they are, and they lie.

if you like tho then go for it. there are people here who dont like chris reeve knives. go figure.

I'm very hesitant to trust them based on past history, but I've heard some cautiously optimistic reviews of the Tough Tony and Pit Boss. Personally, I think a 1/4" inch thick blade on a sub 3" cutting edge would cut like a sack of wet mice, but maybe it means they're trying to get their act together.

You're not the only one to think that. :p I hope they get their act together because it makes the industry healthier. I also hope that Jared West isn't as insufferably arrogant as he was when I met him at SHOT back when the company debuted. You know what they say--hope springs eternal! :D

So I ended up looking them up on the forums and on google and while I do find the mantis militia thing to be weird like the kiss army, I feel it would be wrong for me to judge a company based on their tack record. When I did this with spyderco I didnt like them because of their looks, but when I held one I fond their Eros are phenomenal, when I first bought a benchmade I was expecting an over priced knife when I ended up being really happy with the purchase. You never know until you try it for yourself.

Judging a company on their track record isn't the same as judging one by the looks of their knives. I do agree with this however:
You never know until you try it for yourself.

Your own history belies your advice.

If you had bothered to look up the track record of each of those companies, you would have discovered that your "discoveries" were common experiences.
Spydercos are known for their great ergonomics.
Benchmades are known for high quality and satisfied customers.

Likewise with Mantis. Jarod has spammed us. He has repeatedly lied to us. Why would we want to personally experience his junk.

As I said before, if you like the knife, cool, but do not expect us to go out and buy Mantis knives.

Wasn't he a boyfriend on one of the real housewives shows?

I can't find any designs that look useable. That, combined with the blade steel lies are enough to keep me away.

I have been collecting knives for quite a few decades now and I constantly am amazed.
So many fine people in the knife industry, so I have never had the desire to own or use knives from sources that behave questionably.

I'm interested in the blade steel deal. I found the thread that had the alleged CPM440V blade on a $50ish folder made overseas. It's an absurd marketing claim & obviously untrue, but was there more funny business with the steel claims that I missed?
