Mantis knives?

Maybe I'll give them a try; do they make things that are: extreme heavy duty hard use tactical anti glare covert ops spec combat reinforced thick capable?
If not.
I don't want.
^_^

You DO realize that the statement about a laser guided knife was NOT a joke right?

Oh, my. A laser guided knife pioneered by Mantis.....

picard-facepalm.jpg

Wouldn't surprise me if he took all $20 he made from his business and bought himself a more proper knife in privacy of his home.

I have had the displeasure to talk to them at the 2011 Blade show in Atlanta...... I asked them about the steel because I was curious, I got insulted.......... I asked if they could tell me anything about it,being the patient person interested in the knife not the salesman, and all they said was that it was proprietary. I asked what was the chemical comp because I can get a rough idea from that. They responded with "It's proprietary." Confused I asked what steel it was similiar too. They said "Well its proprietary but its similiar to like 154 and s30." All I could think was........."wtf....am I trying to buy a combat spoon?"[in my head] Ignoring this (which no one should in retrospect) I asked to see the Karambits, avoiding all the other mall ninja knives for obvious reasons. He showed me them and tried to explain what a karambit was to me..... Even though I told him I have 8 years of training with Karambits. (he also pronounced it kerrrraammbit like he was steve erwin or something which irked me a bit.) Trying to be patient, I listened, but after he kept going, I realized that my cousin knew more about a karambit from just watching me compared to this rep. He continued with his spewing B.S. for a good 5 minutes, five minutes of which i will never get back.
THEN OUT OF NOWHERE I hear him burst out.

BUT IF YOU LIKE THIS IS THE ULTIMATE KERRRRAAMMMBIT DESIGN!

I am pretty sure a part of my brain died at this moment.
He left to talk to someone about a laser guided knife (......no comment there..........to easy) leaving a saleswoman with me........
I am not going into the conversation...... besides her saying "umm... its sharp and it locks and you can hurt people with it i think"
When he got back I just said, " Ya you know what I don't want a dog toy" Left and bought a Fox Karambit w/ the emerson wave from the Fox USA booth.

moral of the story, Mantis should stick to over priced mountain bikes and leave the knives to the chinese....

That "laser video" reminded me of Billy Madison's answer to his first academic decathlon question... and the response...

(It is hard to tell if the person in the mantis video is actually serious -kind of like the humor from "Best In Show.")

Great story! :D

By the way, ever notice how their carbon fiber scales are contoured but the pattern looks flat? It's just a flat layer under a bunch of plastic. :p

This is more how CF should look when it's solid and ground to shape.

I wouldnt be suprised that if you take a real pocket knife or a screwdriver and scratch it, you'll find its not really carbon fiber.
Maybe its a layer of makeup with resin on it? You know they are good at makeup since their owner wears it on camera.

Last time I got a catalog from the NRA store I was very surprised to see a Mantis knife offered for
sale. I thought the folks at the Association would do a little research before insulting members
with "quality" like this...

No its for those 14 year olds who got their first shot gun! They need something they can throw in the air and use as target practice.

Maybe mantis is a good hunting knife.

Mantis!!! For when one blood groove isnt enough!

Every time I see that knife pattern I always think the scales look like some kind of middle school art class mosaic. It's like it had scales at one point, but they got dropped and they lost a few pieces so they made do with what was left.

Mantis wanted to save money as usual. They marketed it as high end but in reality they just ran out of material lol

Heck yes, I need a knife with 2 blood grooves and what looks like chewed up handle with some bedazzled flair ;)
But in all seriousness if somebody likes their knives, they should try them, just not for me, at all.

I feel their only market is for the blind people with no hands. Or just people who want to look Fabulous~ I wouldnt suggest trying them. They lie about their steel and have poor ethics. paying them is promoting their behavior. You saw what happened when ppl promoted kim jong il? missiles everywhere! Don't buy mantis or you're supporting the bombing of South Korea! lol

I cant believe mantis is still in business. They have the most hideous knives I have ever seen:thumbdn:
