March MYB thread

I need to get in on this. I refuse to jog, so I am keeping an eye peeled for a good deal on a used mountain bike. Meanwhile, we already have a stationary bike that my wife has put to good use, but I have not touched at all since bringing it into the house :o

However, my "Yard/Garden Gym" is in full effect again this year...

:)

4 mile mountain bike ride yesterday afternoon,
1 mile walk back to the car when I got a nasty flat.

2+1 = 3 + 51 = 54 BPs TTD.

You are the kind of people that I dreaded having along on group rides from the shop.....'cause I was always bringing up the rear with tubes, tools and knowledge! Plus, someone would always get a flat or break a derailleur in the most mosquito infested part of the ride....and then look at me, pleading to help them while everyone else rode outta there at "bug speed" - the speed at which the mosquitoes can't catch you. Ah, good times. I woulda helped you out with that flat so you didn't hafta walk, brother. Honestly I would have.

Ha, no. Thanks for the offer - I've no doubt you would have, Mike. I've been riding MTB's on these trails since '96 - and wrenching since the '80's. I've fixed friends brakes, derailleurs, chains and tubes - and trued rims - on the trail.
In all that time, it's the first flat I've had on MY bike that I couldn't pump up and ride out. I was going to fix it there - but 2 months ago I put on some "tubeless-compatible" tires, and new tubes. Tires were so tight it took me 2 hours in the backyard, and snapped one of my tire irons. What I haven't done is got a new set of irons, so I have just one left. And while I do have a Park-tools kit and a couple wrenches, along with a Case knife and a Preon2, in the bike kit - I don't have a decent flat-head screwdriver in there.

Had just finished the uphill singletrack, and was waiting for my friend/riding buddy - and when she showed up I heard this "SSSSHHHHH" sound. I said - what's that? She says - "It's YOUR bike!" I was like, "No Way" By the time I dismounted and checked for pressure, the air was GONE. I haven't triage'd in yet, but I have a feeling something went awry with the tube or stem - more than a single thorn hole. Having super tight tires, a 70% chance that a simple patch and pump wouldn't do it, and only one tire iron - and being at the trailhead nearest the car - I decided to take a short hike-a-bike and meet my family at the beach rather than fight with my tire for the next hour. Trust me, it was a conscious decision - and the right one.

Before you question the flat on the tubeless system like she did - I don't have tubeless-compatible rims - which explains the difficulty putting the tire on there. And I ran 'em with some standard mountain bike Bontrager presta-valve tubes.

Anyway, staying with the father-in-law for a time. Too busy "moving in" last night - no time for a walk.
1 mile tonight.

Apple Health counts my steps and says I walked 101.5 miles this month. But I only count 'em when I'm "out for a walk" and not when I'm shopping or parked at the far edge of the lot at work or whatever else I do to make sure I walk as much as I can.

55 BPs to close March out.
