I have been unable to contact Marion for the last week and a half. I have sent P.M's and emails. He was going to make a sheath for my RtakII in black. He said he was out of black(hard to belive) so I waited untill the time he said he would have it ready to ship. That was last week. I am still trying to contact him. The sheath has already been paid for as well.I have heard a few stories of issues similar to mine, and I'm getting a little nervous. Should I go to Dispute with Paypal and try to get my Money back? This has actually gone on for about a month now. I don't know how else to try and get him to respond.

Marion....you out there?

I hope so. He could at the very least answer emails, and P.M's, and answer them promptly. There is NO excuse for that nowadays with the technology we have available. If you are running a business that should be a top priority.

I just typed up a huge message and for some reason BF logs me out after 15min of inactivity (Yes I was typing a bunch and was too slow) I hit "Post" and it went to the log in page. I am not going to type it again...

I am giving you the ultra short version now. Marion does great work, but if you have deadlines or want the knives in a timely manner use someone else... If you can arrange with him to pay when the work is done you may have better results time wise. If you need more details please feel free to Email or PM me!

^^^Words to live by with any custom order, be it knives, sheaths, or anything else. Unless the order requires unusual/expensive materials (and thus a high up-front investment for the maker) or is so unique/unusual that the maker would have trouble finding another buyer if for some reason you didn't come through (obviously a black sheath for a common knife like the RTAK II doesn't meet this criterion), I see little reason why a maker should require payment up-front.

Good luck getting this resolved, OP. As you noted, you're far from the first person to have such issues. Like 1galit said, and from everything I've heard, MDP seems to come through eventually and says all the right things (apologies, excuses, etc.) when someone starts a thread like this. But the fact remains that there's ample evidence that he needs to be much more organized, professional, and communicative in how he runs his business.

True. I am used to sending payment to people up front, and not having any issues, so I didn't see this as any different. Not having black Kydex when you make sheaths as a business seems a bit ridiculous. I don't mind waiting, Hell I waited over 2 months for a custom sheath for my Junglas from another maker, but that was because he had a Motorcycle accident. But he kept me informed! I just want the guy to respond to an Email or a P.M. That ain't to much to ask.

I also had some uncomfortable experiences with MDP. I think I waited 6 months beyond his delivery date, there was always an excuse. Finally, the day I contacted him to cancel my order, coincidences of coincidences, he said that he just finished and had already mailed my order out!?! The order arrived wrong btw, he forgot the tek-lok that I paid for.

Yeah, this happened to me too. I ordered a BK-7 sheath and it took many months to complete. Several emails sent, most never replied. I'm sure he'll get you the sheath but it’s going to be awhile.

Amazing. He contacted me now, and said he got the the Kydex in a couple of days ago. So he said it would be a few days to make it, or he had some Coyote ones ready to go. I then sent a message right back asking about the Coyote one, and have not heard back yet.

Similar experience...2 weeks became 2 months with the same communication problems. Finally got the sheath and it was the best kydex sheath I've ever seen. If he could get that time/communication thing under control, he could be banking because his product and skill is excellent. I was within a inch of hunting him down, but when I got the sheath I was happy again. I would be upfront with him, and insist of a REAL delivery expectation. I wasn't upset because it took so long, I was upset because I was told 2 weeks and then he dropped off the face of the earth. The stuff IS worth the wait at a fair price, I just want a real date. In todays world, theres no excuse for lack of communication. I wouldn't have even mentioned if if not for reading people are still having issues.

I have never heard of anyone not getting their sheath and not loving it, so be patient. I think if people know what to expect they wont blow a gasket like I almost did. But they are great! Even with that experience, I'd buy from him again based on his work. I just know not to expect it quick.

Well the transaction with Marion started back in March, when I inquired about getting some sheaths made. He got back to my in April, and over the course of two weeks we discussed cost's of making two sheaths for me, both custom. He dropped off the net work about three weeks, then I got an email with his shipping info. I mailed off my two blades to him. He got them on May 20th, but did not reply or let me know they arrived until May 29th.

On June 29th, he emailed me a couple of pictures of the sheaths, and told me the price, $30 more then he quoted me. I agreed because I have him add firesteel loops, and Paypal'd him the total including return shipping on June 29th.

Around the 10th of July he emailed me and said he wasn't sure if he was suspose to ship out the knives/sheaths or if I had wanted more.

As of today, I have heard nothing from him, nor received anything from him. I have canceled the transaction via paypal, maybe I will hear from him now.

Either way, I would strongly recommend against doing business with him. Unreliable, flaky at best.

So he still has your 2 knives?

Nothing new here- this is his user experience and has been for years. He has a fan base that puts up with it.

This guy consistently pops up with customer problems every couple of months / scrambles to save his business / then fails again.

Yes. And he posted in the Feedback forum over at ESEE, that he will explain later... to all the folks looking for their sheath or money back.

He posted a tracking number to Paypal last night, and yes indeed, there is a package on it's way to me as we speak. Of course he DIDN'T mail it until yesterday a month after he had my money, but HEY at least I might get my blades back, and maybe even a sheath or two.

So basically, he won't reply to emails, or make/ship your paid for products until he is in danger of losing the payment, or he is publicly called out on it in one of the forums. To date he hasn't even had the guts to email me directly. Not even a "dog ate my shipping box" store to explain why it took a month to get to the PO.

Save yourselves some time and money, buy from someone else. I am going to for the 7 other sheaths I was going to order. Oh yeah, and I forgot to mention in my original post, he quoted me $55 shipped for the sheaths and charged me $85.

Marion,

I am posting this here because you will not respond to any of my emails.

After several emails you and I made arrangements for you to make a Kydex sheath for my Skookum Bush Tool (SBT).
I sent you my SBT, leather sheath (for safety while being transported and when you opened the box) with a USPS money order for the full amount of the sheath and return postage. The payment in full upfront is on me. I paid you in full upfront because I did not want any issues with the payment or the delay of my knife return for any reason.
We had great communication via emails until July 13 2011 which was the last time you emailed me. I have made several attempts to contact you after the 13th.
You signed for and picked my knife, leather sheath and USPS MO on July 15 2011 at 12:41pm. The UDSPS money order cleared on July 20 2011.

Because of your extreme lack of communication with me I no long have faith in you or do I trust you.
From recent feed back on blade forum and the ESEE forum It would appear that this type of behavior (disappearing, extreme lack of communication, keeping people hanging for months at a time without any communication) is not new to you. This is not the first time it has happened.
I am not okay with this.

I am canceling my order for the Kydex sheath you were to make for my SBT.

Using the money you already have from me you are to send my SBT with the leather sheath back to me immediately in the same condition they were in when you received them. Insure the knife and sheath for $250.00.

I want my SBT and leather sheath sent back to me immediately.
I said this again just in case you did not get it the first time.

Exactly. I'm amazed that Mr. Poff hasn't yet been added to the Hall of Shame.

I ordered a a sheath from him about 5 month ago....got a response over a month ago that i would get it in the next week or so....havnt seen it and cant get ahold of him...has anyone contacted him lately? i'm sure he's just really backed up it would just be nice to hear back.

Amazing, I have been a BF member since the start, seems that so many of the original folks have turned into scam artists.
