Turns out I was right about the people flipping the wardens. I just got a PM from one of them absolutely cussing me out for having an opinion different than his. If anyone would like to know who it was and what the message said, PM me and I'll show you.

I would like to see the blue and black wardens at the company store for $197 available to newcomers instead of in the hands of a greedy soul that will inevitably cause Jerry to raise his prices. He will have to, or his knives will become nothing more than a commodity that are only available at ridiculous prices from some cornhead who would sell his own mother for a profit.
There are so many ways to make money without taking Busse knives away from those would enjoy them, but may never get the chance to own one because some loser decided that he can’t make enough money at his chosen career, and has to infect a wonderful hobby with his disease.
Wouldn’t it be nice if people bought Busse knives because they love them and not because they are greedy?

+1:thumbup:

Most people do buy Busse knives because they love them. The overwhelming majority of people in the Busse forum are stand-up folks, who are interested in the knives and in the sense of community that surrounds them. Most of the guys here are willing to go out of their way to help each other out- a rarity in our time and culture. There are a few exceptions to this, but please don't take the behaviour of a few as evidence of the mindset of the whole. :)

In an effort to keep a situation from escalating, I have decided not to share this private message. Thank you for your understanding.

I remember when I first got here in January.
The Exchange was a magical place with many people selling multiples of the Game wardens.
Pictures of the treasure all in a row, color coordinated.
I went from sales thread to sales thread like a kid in a candy store.:)
I knew the knives were marked up, but what in life that you purchase is not?
I have bought a ton of marked up knives over on the exchange and I do not have any hard feelings about that at all.
In fact I had a Blast! Hell I am still buying them!
The knives hold their value. They will be worth more when I do tire of them..
The knife I just sold on the exchange is still worth more than it's asking price, and that stock is not done rising....

The title of this thread is not "New Guys get your Troll on.."
Why don't you at least buy a membership and support the place?

You went and signed up! Good boy!
Now for my next command....
Go jump off a bridge....:D:D

I just bought a knife on the exchange...do I wish that I could of gotten it from the store for $197? Sure I do. But when I saw what they were going for on that other auction site and what I got this one for to me it seemed like a pretty good deal.

You are doing the right thing - check it out first. Then if you decide you want to, buy a membership. I think most reasonable people would agree.

I am sure that will be confirmed when you use it for two years and then find out it's worth $300 used....;)

How can you spend half a century on earth and not figure out that all value isn't fiscal? A guy wants a knife of limited availability, so he spends an extra 50 bucks to get it. Big deal. Does that represent an adjustment in value? Who cares?

I'm going to venture out on a limb here and suggest that most of us who own $10K, $20K, $50K... $500K worth of Jerry's knives have some disposable income to play with, and hopefully know the difference between a collection and an investment.

Presumably one would have to consider the time spent F5'ing as part of a given knife's acquisition cost. For a relatively highly paid individual, that cost might be substantial. So maybe it makes sense to just pay a little more in a quicker transaction.

Of course it's also true that F5'ing holds some potential intangible value... just like the knives themselves. There's that theme again. :)

People who buy knives in bulk and then turn around and sell them to people who are in their own circle, supposedly "friends" to the extent one can be in this type of forum, at a marked profit immediately after said friends missed this opportunity in part due to this type of hording are BRAVO FOXTROT. That's all there is to it. Of course I don't buy from them. :thumbdn:

Edited to add: Selling to people "outside" the group here might be different but I see people here getting jammed by a "friend". I know Jerry's opinion on this and it is laissez faire. That's cool, he's the man. I have a different view.

So what am I missing and the US Tax Court missing; or what is the buyer in transaction six missing?

It's no different than Beanie Babies or Las Vegas condos. People decide they absolutely must have things they don't need and bid up the price based on perceived shortages. And when the prices rise, more people get in and bid the prices up even higher because they're such a great investment.

I want to stick in my two cents worth on the issue of “flipping” these Busse knives. I am talking specifically about what’s going on with the Game Wardens on ebay and right here on the exchange.
I realize that the notion of purity and honor is just that, a notion. This is America, and the freedom to make money within the confines of the laws and regulations is what makes it such a great place. But just because it is legal doesn’t make it right, or ethical. When I first happened on Busse knives and found this forum, I thought I had found something that was rather pure and honest, made up of those who love these knives and were happy to see new people get involved and would help them any way they could, and for the most part I think this is true, but then I saw that people would buy these Busse knives and the same day offer them for sale at huge profits, and I realized there were the kind of people involved in this that I really wish would stick to selling cars or copiers.

I would say you have gone a little beyond sharing your opinion, into the realm of delivering insults.

Exactly... I'm surprised at all the whining. Is this the first time a hot Busse model sold for a premium?!?

My Police and Bruiser wardens just arrived .. WOW !!! If I wasn't lucky enough to score at the BCS I'd probably be hitting up the bay right now for one :D

A tough is to feed many HOG's. A funnel is to feed a few. I don't think people should be funneling. I'm more interested in the idea of sharing all this than making money from my friends. It's one of those things that you CAN do but OUGHT not.

This all comes back to one of Skunks lighter dogs:eek:. You got to do, what you got to do, in order to get your weiner hot.

Someone please insert lost photo:o:grumpy:

Someone sent this to me in a PM, I changed it a bit so you can't ID the writer.

"What kills me are the people who pay the prices are setting the stage for future sellers expectations, and soon it becomes a monster.

Then, when the frenzy passes into a lull, people will own a knife they will have to wait a long long time for "true secondary market" dynamics to bring market back to anywhere close to what they paid.

Cabbage Patch, Sports Cards, Beanie Babies, X-Box, I-Phone, all of them."

In any case I'm more interested comments about what drives the buyer, I know the seller just wants to make money. That is an easy one.
