Marketing strategies etc…

I started to market a knife once, but I didn't want to have to whore myself out to the man.

I've found that using a mixture of pseudo-science and ancient blacksmithing lore works really well as a marketing tool. I tell people I heat treat my blades in a salt bath full of virgin panther urine after using a cryogenic treatment to help fracture the steel atoms I packed in the edge of the steel using a special blacksmithing hammer and the special north facing quench tank to align the steel molecules along the edge. Yup I think that about covers my marketing.

Seriously, my marketing is based on a few simple philosophies as outlined to me by my teacher:

It's easier to sell someone a second knife than a first one.

Always give more than they expect.

There's 100000 custom knife buyers out there, there's maybe 5000 or so "serious" makers, you don't have to please everyone and you damn sure don't need to try.

90% of my knife sales are repeat customers. I do my best to keep the customers I have and to make sure they're happy.

Wow you guys are a riot! I got an idea how about a knife maker reality show were all you guys share a shop for like a year. I think I can sell this idea to MTV. Think of the publicity. who ever lives will be a made man:)
