So GEC recently released another round of Bullnoses in Green Linen Micarata as well as a new version handled in Maroon Linen Micarta. As most regulars here know I have a little obsession with the Sodbuster pattern so naturally I was all over the new additions to one of my favorite renditions of the pattern. I ordered a couple of the Maroon Linen versions from Mike over at Collectorknives.net and they quickly arrived(as always). I most say that I'm very impressed with this handle version, very classy. I own all the handle versions that GEC has put out, from the Black & Orange Delrin , Nifibrite, Green Linen Micarta as well as the SFO's from Mike which include OD Green Canvas Micarta, Natural Canvas Micarta and Red Linen Micarta. Out of all these I must say that the Maroon seems the most dressy and stylist of them all, a real looker! Now I'm a huge fan of the Natural Canvas Micarta version, it just screams work horse and rugged user knife but if you are looking for a user that dresses up a little for work in the office or a night out on the town, this handle choice is the one. The color is a deep rich maroon that pops in the right light. As usual the fit and finish is great! Nice walk and talk, solid lockup, no blade wobble, no gaps and centered blade. The pivot pin is the new proud version but much more refined and finished than some of the canvas versions. They definitely polished them out to a smooth finish so there are no sharp edges. The other versions never bothered me but polished finish is nice and should make those who didn't like the harder edges happy. So if you are looking for a nice pocket knife to use and carry around on some dressier occasions, this is a great option and a real good price. Hopefully GEC will continue expanding this line with more handle choices, including some wood scales!! Here are some pics of the knife and then a few with it's brethren. Hope you enjoy!

Thanks for the generous giveaway. I'm in!

;) :)

Just kidding. I love your collection. It's really something seeing them all together. I have the original Black Delrin and love it. It makes yard work more enjoyable. lol

Heh heh heh heh. :)

Nice collection. I'm very happy with my Bullnose and look forward to the future line of this knife. That maroon looks great and looks more like a nice rich wine than maroon.

Great pics. I love seeing full collections of a certain model. Are you going to do the same for the larger sized Bull Busters when they come out?

These 71s are starting to grow on me. While I like the linen micartas and think they make for a classy work knife I'm more fond of the grippy nature & larger "weave" of the canvas micartas. Would love to see other colors (think blue) in the canvas. Would also like to see the sheepsfoot Hay'n Helper offered in canvas micarta.

I love the group photos. All the options look good!!

Is there blue canvas? Maybe blue jeans/denim micarta? :) I'm with ya on the #47.

I've no idea. Half assumed it could be dyed any color. Perhaps not. Regardless, I like blue and would pounce on a blue 71. :D

I strongly suspect a canvas or OD green wrapped 47 would a hot seller. Hint, hint.

That's a handsome collection, and those new maroon scales are calling to me, shoot. Too many patterns lately that are just making me want to bend!

You're a big part of the reason that I managed to get a hold of the #71 in natural canvas Trevor, still carrying and using it outside of work heavily, it made an excellent companion on that cabin trip we were speaking of.

Anyone that hasn't had the chance to get one of these in hand yet, I highly suggest it, great users!

trevytrev - Do you have one of the original "Factory Test Run" SFO Bull Nose knives that Mike started this #71 adventure with? There were only 28 of them made - maybe 29 but no more than 29. The tube the knife came in has the Great Eastern Cutlery oval label with a squirrel on either side of the oval.

It has the unique "Great Eastern Cutlery - Factory Test" oval on the blade.

Thank you, I could never find a decent shot of the maroon linen so that helps me a lot. This is definitely a step in the right direction in my opinion... exposed pin, bare ends, tool steel blade, thick micarta covers...

Now you just need a full set of 21s and you're all set!

Thanks guys, glad you like them!

Ed, I have two of the test runs in orange, one brand new in tube and one user I found on evilbay.

I need to get a family shot of all my Bullnoses. With Duplicates and all the different variations in handles, pivots and the name change I have close to 20. The only variation I believe I'm missing is the Black delrin with redneck pivot and stamp. I REALLY want that one bad so if anyone has one theyre willing to sell or trade I'm the man to contact and would help me complete the set!

I don't think I'll collect all the Bullbusters, I try to stick to the smaller framed soddies ...but I'm not ruling it out yet either:D....lord help my bank account!!!

I'm all for more micarta colors and blue denim would be awesome on a bullnose! Let's start beating the drum for some wood handles. Sure they'll cost a littel extra but who here wouldn't love to have one:D

nice! I was wondering how these looked IRL, since all the dealer pics make these look black. Thanks for these! Beautiful knives! Might have to spring for one. :)

These really do something for me. I'll be picking one up for dress up time.

Thanks for the review & pics.
