Martial Arts for My Niece

Hibuke,

Do not underestimate Muai Thai and Brazilain Jujutsu. Muay Thai is a very very effective martial art. Problem is when you commericialize an art any art its spirit dies. If you happen to come to Holland, watch the Muay Thai fighters there, one kick of them knocks out 99 percent of men on the street, I am sure! I mean low-kicks.

Yeah, I know Muay Thai is a hardcore combative-styled Martial Art. It's actually my favourite empty-handed style, and yes, it's *VERY* deadly, and forms an excellent basis to build on. However, on it's own, it's *STILL* inadequate, like I've mentioned before...

I don't feel there is a martial art that is inadequate by itself. If you look back in history all arts had a true master(s) and were/are capable of defeating any type of attack. Every martial art when taught right and compleet can deal with anything. True masters of the arts teach this.

Today though a lot of schools are jokes and don't teach half right. That gives students a false idea of how the art is supposed to be and if you get enough schools and students in an art that are trained poorly it slowly makes the art look bad. Tae Kwon Do is a good example of this. It is probably the most popular art in the past 50 years by far and a lot of bad "sabunims" "kwanjanims" "masters" or what ever they call themselves are out there doing a very poor job passing on the art. When TKD is taught the way Joon Rhee (spelling??) intended it to be it is a great art in the ring on the ground in the street or wherever as are all MA when taught right and in it's entirety.

(1) Being alert of the surroundings (2) Learning basic punch & kick correctly from good instructor; with the exact knuckles & parts of the foot. (3) Loud yell on impact with the element of surprize. (4)Practice & Perserverence

Try the basics first,Sounds like she can throw a punch to begin with. That will build her confidence and probably won't cost too much at first.:D ;) BOBB AND WEAVE!
