Purchased a custom Emerson UBR Commander via a popular online auction. Paid for the item. Sellers (A. and E. Martinez, Imperial Beach CA) demanded more money, then refused to ship. Found out later they were selling the same knife on gunbroker.com while they were supposed to be shipping me what I paid for.

Total scammers. Beware.

As you can see from the links they were supposed to be shipping my knife to me (purchased Sunday on eBay)
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Emerson-UBR...539?pt=Collectible_Knives&hash=item462312c1cb

but they had it listed on Gun Broker here:

My advice is don't deal with these disreputable, dishonest scammers. No honor whatsoever.

Re: Custom Emerson UBR Commander

Thanks RevDevil. I did all I could, including reporting their transactions as fraud to the site and to law enforcement. I have a lot of friends and family in law enforcement. You never know what will turn up when they get checked out.

Bottom line: I don't want any forum members getting scammed by this father/son POS team.

Thanks,
Mark

I hope this works out for you. If you paid with Paypal you will probably be ok. Should be a easy claim for them to quickly judge on.

Not trying to be a tool, but did you notice they only had one Feedback? I would have been a little concerned buying a $1200 knife from someone with really no history at all.

Why send that much money to someone with no feedback (a score of 2 at the time of my post)? Since it is through ebay and hopefully through paypal you should be okay but a little common sense could have helped you avoid the whole situation.

Did they give you reasons for demanding more money? I'm guessing they were hoping to more bids on the knife and didn't get them. Then they reneged on the deal? Poor business practice.

Thanks for letting us all know about these folks.

ebay has a "money back guarantee" that you should qualify for. Follow this link:

Best of luck.

Thanks for all the support and advice. I would not have purchased the knife except that they agreed ahead of time to a face-to-face delivery. I appreciate the caution re: low feedback, but in my experience everyone deserves a chance to build a reputation. Too bad these POS decided to go the other way.

The OP Buying a very expensive knife from someone without any feedback greatly contributed to the problem. The are lessons to be learned from these threads. There were obvious Warning Signs which were ignored.

"I would not have purchased the knife except that they agreed ahead of time to a face-to-face delivery."
If you were this concerned why would you Pay in advance?

You're still not contributing anything worthwhile.

Beg to differ. People obviously need to be reminded of basic online dealing. No one is bashing the OP. We all feel for him. Hope he gets his money back. But, if he - and others - would just objectively asses the situation, and at least avoid people that have no feedback nor do any research/checking before they send $1200 to someone they do not know; there would be a whole lot less issues.
Sometimes learning means hearing what you may not want to hear .......people learn from success and failures.

He did not pay with a brown paper sack full of twenties, he used ebay/Paypal and that affords him all the protection he needs just for this type of transaction. All that needs to garnered from this thread is a heads up on a seller to steer clear of.

Sure, hopefully he will get his money back.
When......a week or two .....$1200.
All the worry, aggravation, money tied up.......yep, all he needs.

Again, no one is bashing the op. We all hope it works out. But, that is the point. It now has to WORK out.
The education here is more than just the particular seller.

I don't think the OP made any mistake at all. He paid paypal via goods and agreed to a face to face deal (probably due to the low feedback). He will get his money back and it def. wont take 1-2 weeks. Thanks for the heads up Mark and goodluck.

Thieves suck, period. I have to commend Mark on his willingness to give a newbie a chance. We were all newbies once, and had it not been for someone giving us a chance to prove ourselves, we may not have gotten as far in this hobby as we have.
