Masonboro Island NC survival Beach trip feeler

This sounds interesting. A few questions though... What is FAX/PSK? I gather this trip would be bring nothing but a knife?

First Aid/Personal Survival Kits. Small kits that will house needed items to survive, and thrive, in a wilderness enviroment. Joe will come on and detail it out for you, I'm sure.

I have wanted to do a survival type camping trip for a while now. Some friends and I have talked about doing similar but for a longer time (a week or more). If I can be there on those dates I am interested.

I will post more details after I get back into the country after june 1

Joe,
What you need to do is post that you will bring a ton of the new Condor knives for sale at this event.
I bet you'd get a few hundred folks to attend.

I could bring a few and sell them, perhaps. Who is coming still? I'm going to keep this thread up near the top to get people in.

I'm still interested. Any more details on what we should/shouldn't bring? I can possibly borrow a canoe if needed. Girlfriends too or is it guys only? Not sure my gf could deal with only a knife though :D

This sounds fun, Ill have to ask my dad about going. Ive always wanted to forage for food. Im not so sure bout the date though guys, wont it be still realy hot? why not move it more into fall. And what about hunting? I dont know of anything in season in august. I think dove is in sep, and deer is is oct.

Well, we certainly dont need to kill a deer. As I understand it, we are going to fish. If Joe brings a golok to sell, dibs on it! :D Muhaha!

and we can do one in the fall later, who doesn't want to be outside during the summer?

Man o man you guys are in for a treat.....

I am jealous! Do this again next year and I am there! Ive already went to Cali this year, and am goin to CT soon, plus Arkansas in Augest, if I tried to go to this I might be divorced. :o

We will be on an island. We probably won't be the only people there, as some parts of the island can be party central at times, however, IF YOU HAVE ANY MEDICAL CONDITIONS/MEDICATIONS...bring what you need with you! We will have "cheater" bags of food and such there if we need it.

I may be game. Looking into travel details now.

bump for some more chum, er I mean Chums to come along

Im in. So are we also gonna do a blade swapmeet there or something like that? Also, Do you know any specifics about bugs and such down there? as well as is the place an island off a freshwater body of water or saltwater? if saltwater is there a spring or somthing we could get water to boil from?

Blade swapmeet happens at the cars before the trip. Specific parasitic and blood sucking bugs include biting midges (no see ums), small numbers of deer and horse flies, and some small sand fleas

as stated above: sunblock and bug block are allowed.
Head net encouraged but not necessary. If you haven't camped with hardly anything, or have never slept outside in uncomfortable conditions, this may not be the trip you would want to come on. Everyone will be trying to provide for themselves in some way or another, tis not a class! Its a free get together so everyone is responsible for themselves :)

We will be bringing water as back up, but we will be trying to find water on the beach first in as many innovative ways as possible:

For instance
Find a container or bottle (glass), fill container or pot with seawater, build fire and boil water to produce steam, hold cloth over container to absorb steam; wring water from cloth. This also can be done in a water pit, dug, and rocks heated and dropped in.

We'll try this and other methods and see how they are, in the mean time, I'll bring at least 15 gallons of backup water.

Try your hardest to get a boat, as I'm not sure how many I will be able to obtain now. Getting a trailer down there may not be possible by the date.
