Massdrop/Laconico Keen

I’ve been so close to grabbing this. I just never enjoy sculpted clips. That’s my only hang up. The minimalism is so beautiful.

And grey groove is sold out.

I would normally agree with you as well on the machined clip, however this one functions flawlessly. This knife is so well done I can't recommend it enough! My favorite large Sebenza has been very neglected lately on the weekends since the fraternal twins arrived :p

Quick question:

For those of you that have experience with WE knives, is this level of quality typical for them? I know they've been around a while, but I've never owned one of their knives before.

I was just wondering if one could expect to find this level of quality in their normal line, or if this is just a higher quality piece because it's a Laconico/We collaboration?

Thanks!

FINE! I did it. Ordered gret portal since no other gret options were available. I don’t care for the colors particularly and, portals was my third handle style (don’t dislike, just like groove and then plain more), but have to see this in person.

I’ve handled more than 30 WE knives of various models, and have two Keens.

The build quality is very consistent across the board.

Where WE tends to lose a lot of people is with their very flashy, occasionally bizarre in house designs. It is often said, and I agree, that they’re at their best building for designers like Laconico, Isham, Willumsen, Ferrum Forge, etc.

Having said that, the Practic and Rectifier are two incredibly well done examples of what WE can do with more subdued in-house designs. Each is under $150, and they’re brilliant cutting tools.

My keen was so amazing I ordered the CF gent from massdrop. Ti liners, s35vn steel, carbon fiber scales, built by WE, for $100? Seems too good to be true.

I’ll second, or third, the comment that the pocket clip functions flawlessly. I’ve also had problems with sculpting clips, not the case here. Very very close to buying a second one.

Glad to hear they build a solid knife.

I'm another one that really didn't like some of the flashy, very angular designs, but did see one I REALLY like - The 813 Wasabi.

The 813 sorta reminds me of the much anticipated Spyderco/Slysz Swayback.

What do you guys think of this...???

Glock Guy Glock Guy I nearly bought a Wasabi. I obviously enjoy minimalist designs, so it caught my eye right away. The blade shape was the turn off, in the end. I occasionally have to make a bunch of stabbing cuts for work. If it had a little different shape, I’d own one.

You guys turned me on to this knife and its simple lines / price drew me in. It slices amazingly well, disappears in my pocket and the blade flies out with a simple push. The 3D clip really works well and I appreciate its simplicity. I didn't think I would like it as much as I do. You were all right about this knife. Yesterday, I did something I have never done. I ordered a second knife, in left hand carry.

I am naturally left-handed but have had to adopt to the right world, and my first example is a right-hand example. This way I can be truly ambidextrous and carry on either side with an amazing knife.

Have to agree about the pocket clip, I don’t even have to think about it when pulling it out/putting it back in the pocket.

Just a very well executed clip.

I now see the light. I long dismissed Laconico customs as too small for my taste. Then I got a Keen. It was handy. I bought another. I'm now anxiously awaiting an email this week announcing the availability of the even smaller EZC. US production at thrice the price of the WE Keen. I can't wait. These things are functional jewels.

I've got the heavy blasted handles with portals, considering having it redone with a light blast and and anodization around the chamfering on the portals, with the spacer and clip to match.

Mine came. Okay, okay. You guys were right. Clip is very functional. It's the best I've seen. I still prefer spring clips but I can't fault this one.

Knife is a tad larger than expected as it looks smaller in photos, but a good size. Fit, form, function is amazing. I would have preferred smooth or the groove, but the holes are fine. You terrible enablers!

I wish you guys would've bought more of these knives. There are still some left, and since it's such a really nice knife at a good price, I had to go & order another. The one I have is the bronze with groove, this one will be bronze with portals. Thanks a lot, you bunch of darn enablers!

just got a bronze with a groove, only downside they don't ship to Austria so i had to send it to a friend in germany

Love this and will get one some day for sure. While the Keen didn't work for me and sold it there is no doubt WE has superb quality control. No issues ordering their knives
