Hello BF! Blessing to all you beautiful souls!! I recently re-entered the fixed blade arena, and I have seen some beauties on the fixed blades for sale forum. I have picked up a Work Tuff Gear Apex and a Condor Woodbuster. Both are 1/4 inch thick blade stock. My question is, what are some options for fixed blades that are THICKER that 1/4 inch? I'd like to keep my purchases under about 300-500, but might entertain higher for the right blade. I like long (Over 12 inches total), thick, apocalyptic blades (not so much in aesthetics, but in function). Pictures would be appreciated, if possible.

Thank you in advance knife peeps...the knowledge on this site is unmatched!!

Have a blessed Sunday!!

Thank you, my friend...looking now!! Any suggestions on specific models?

Which models depends on what you like, there are many thousands of models that fit your description. A good Khukri will likely out chop everything else. Some are over 1/2" thick at the spine and most are designed to eat wood. But, they can be heavy and certainly not the best choice for light foliage. For the lighter green stuff you should have a Latin style machete.

Figure out what you are likely to use it on, how much weight you want to handle, and find a handle design that fits your hand well.

I am not likely to use it on anything. I am likely to put it on a rack and admire it. I have the two quarter inch choppers that I mentioned earlier for using, but want something larger. I just picked up a Sergey Rogovets Rhino. It is 1/4 inch folder. I will never use it, as it cost 1500.00! I have looked at 1000's of knives on line, and now I'm more confused than when I started. I just want a show piece that is a beast of a knife... any model suggestion on any of those brands would be a useful start... just to begin to see what's out there. Additionally, most of the pictures I look at of busse, sicko, etc. knives on this forum leave off the spine thickness in the stats. Either way, my friend, I appreciate the last and have started to do some research thank you friend

Nice folder!

If you want to put something on display you also have the option of considering vintage and antique knives/short swords or sword bayonets. There are plenty of pioneer/engineer/artillery short swords out there, commencing with the US Corpsman bolo and US Colllins 1005 engineer's bolo, to the US 1909 and 1917 series, or the earlier Ames 1832 artillery short sword. It's a wide open field, with examples from all over the world, that can be very colorful and historically interesting.

The one on the right, 8" blade, 13.5" OAL, in A2; cuts surprisingly well. And J-siah J-siah 's heat-treat is great.

Thicker then 6mm? Kukris, Sabres, certain short swords. With that kind of spine thickness you definitely want some distal taper to keep the weight down.

I when through that phase, I think a Lot of us do.....?
I started with Beckers. Tough, user knives.
Then I wanted More, Bigger and bigger.

Then I learned that thin Actually Wins!
It was a learning experience. Now, an 1/8" or so sometimes feels thick.

What burned me out on thickness was a Svord Von Tempsky Golack. Idk If I spelled that right???

It's Huge.
Too big.
Hurts my arms. Seriously.
I should just sell it. And it's probably cheaper than anything on those other lists.

*I'll see if I can add a photo later. ;)

How about a Cold Steel Gurka Kukri Plus in 3v? Massive thickness (8mm), beautiful in a utilitarian kind of way and will chop like crazy if you ever need to use it during a zombie insurrection. I bought mine recently for $400 new which is a bargain considering what a chunk of 3v steel you are getting. Cold Steel seems to do a very good job with 3v

Work Tuff Gear looks like a good option for something that's "off the shelf", I considered a couple but have held off.

Esse, Becker, Cold Steel, etc...

This is my largest to date: Custom Bowie, blade at 8.5" long with O1 tool steel at .25" thick, 14" overall.
