Master USA vs Benchmade

Especially if it's made with some unsharpeneable 440 experiment
Their ads suggest that all of their knives use a "3Cr13MoV... stainless steel blade [that] provides an excellent balance of hardness and corrosion resistance."

It's true that cheap knives are often garbage. But I used a $5 knife to cut baling twine on the farm almost every day for nine years before it needed sharpening. It still cuts baling twine better than some knives that cost over $100.

Edit: Looking back at my post, I think I may have inadvertently given the impression that 3Cr13MoV is good steel. It is not. With good heat treatment, it might be usable, but even so, it would require frequent sharpening.

Today it just arrived, BM 585. My first modern knife, and it is accidently spring assisted - I was not deliberately after that. Then I've found out that people here generaly dislike this kind of knives. Anyway, I like the knife. Question, and some confusion here - why there is such of consideration of the well pronounced and round click - the index finger in front of the knife eliminates such a problem. Another thing that accupies my mind - if I de-assist the knife, will I preserve the no blade play?
Finally, the safety feature is seemingly useless to me - there is no way the blade will open accidentally. This and the other consideration of the spring loaded blade being dangerous are hard to understand, because it's no brainer for staying away from the tip of the blade. I am thinking out loud for pros and cons of keepig the knife the way it is, or to de-assist it....

Edited for spelling.

What is your opinion on Master USA? They are about thirty times avrage cheaper than Benchmade models, and, based on Amazon, have similar popularity and ratings to the Benchmade models. Unfortunately, the reviewers did not share their experience with using Master USA, they just describe the features and how they feel the knife.

"Ya pays yer money and ya takes yer chances"......." The cheapest is not always the best"

Though not a 585 specifically, I have de-assisted a couple BM, Kershaw, and ZT knives. Doing so never had any effect on the lockup or blade play. Ymmv.

So, after about a week of having it, I took a risk to take the 585 apart to remove the spring. I stored the spring just in case, but I do not think I will ever put it back again. Two weeks already after the deassist, and this is my most used knife in the house, but I do not think I will EDC it - too bulky compared with most of the slipjoints I have. Hopefully this nice knife will prevent me from byuing another modern folder, because I think it is good enough and nice enough, and it complements my diverse bulk of slipjoints. I am also very excited that very soon my Aito Puukko will arrive, and got a feeling the Aito and 585 will make a good pair, will post a picture. :)

There are aftermarket scales that will give the Barrage series of knives a smaller, thinner feel in the hand. The 580 series is a good choice.

Thanks, but I like the feeling when holding it, andI have no intention the knife to be EDC or to take it outdoors, so the scales are just fine for me.

I EDC a lot of my Benchmades. I need something that’s going to be ready and not fail when I truly need it. Sure if use an MTech for a specific job if I knew it was bound to ruin the knife. Or like said earlier if I was prone to losing it.
I trust my life to a Benchmade though.

I saw your comment before this one, that stated you wouldn’t need the blade lock because the knife would not open unexpectedly. I have a nasty wound on my pinky finger from when my mini-Barrage opened itself in my pocket and I reached in to my pocket for my phone. The tip up blade was open like a V in my pocket and sliced deep down my pinky along the side. Those blade locks come in handy!
