Match cases

Nope. Its tight like a cork. These are an excellent pieces of kit. K&M matchcases have been used by the military. Stay away from the Silva's I have one that leaks like a sieve.

I have a Silva and it is fine, but it is relying on one o-ring, which seals on the sides and on the bottom once it is screwed down. If you have one that leaks, I would check for out of round, damage to the seat at the bottom and get a fresh o-ring at the local NAPA store and add a little lube. Other than that, I would send it back to Silva and demand a new one. Compasses and match cases aren't toys-- this is serious business!

What's in your PSK? :D

I have had my orange K & M case for years, at least 10 years it seems. I have never replaced the o-rings and it is still water tight. I just lube the rings up every so often, when I notice that they don't have a little sheen on them. I have never had a problem with mine, I camp with older scouts at least once to twice a month all year long. We do a lot of cross country skiing in the winter.

I too have a K&M case but since I dont have access to strike anywhere matches I made a modification to the case.
I peeled off the red striking part from a box of lifeboat matches and attached it on the inside of the lid.

Just make sure you put the match-heads in facing down or you might have a McGyver moment and take a testicle off or something. I have never had a 35mm film can or a match safe actually ignite in my pocket and don't really care to experience that. :)

A few years ago I received several hundred contaminated (fell on the ground) 125ml Nalgene wide mouth labratory sample bottles from a geochem survey I was working on, these bottle are like mini-versions of their standard HDPE one litre water bottle. I use these for just about everything now, from holding matches, sewing kit, shampoo, and spices, etc. They are quite light-weight and waterproof. I still use a Silva match case as back up as there is the possibility the nalgene bottles could get punctured. I have seen these at outdoors shops (REI, etc) in the kitchen section, a great multi-purpose addition to the kit.
