I just wanted to see if anyone was familiar with the Maximizer grinder sold by HOG abrasives?
I've been considering the TW-90, and just wondered if the Maximizer would perhaps be a better choice.

Thanks for any advice or recommendations--on belt grinders in general

I've done a bit of research on this grinder.
It's best suited to folder makers.
I purchased the TW from Travis. It's an unbelievable machine.
Plus, it has a surface grinding attachment which has been awesome as well.

Thanks for the feedback Eric, I have been leaning to Travis's grinder, plus it's cheaper by a pretty good bit-not that it's cheap. So from your comment I'm taking it you would recommend buying it with the surface grinding attachment?
Regards--Don

I've been looking at the TW grinder. Last time I looked
He didn't have the surface grinder attachment available yet.
How do you like it as a whole?

It really is a nice machine and very high quality. I saw it at the Califorina Custom Knife show and at Tru Grit as well. In fact their factory is in my home town :)

It is expensive with all the bells and whistles but really can do many tasks and uses 2x72 belts which is nice. The optional lights are pretty impressive.

The base price is still around 3500? What's the full setup run?
Surface attachment and all?

Yes the starting price is $3500--I would have to call them to get a total, I know that every 'table' that you add is like $200 for each 'workstation' I don't know how much the surface grinding attachment is. Travis's machine is $3400 + whatever additional tool attachments you add, he doesn't have a price listed for his surface grinding attachment.
I looked at the Maximizer at BladeShow, and they are certainly a well constructed machine, I was just looking for opinions from folks who know more about grinders in general, and possibly used one.

Travis offers two different sizes for the surface grinder, a 9" and a 13".
I went with the 13".
It is awesome. Easy to use and accurate to within .5 thousandths.
Extra tables are great to have but not needed to get started.
I was at Travis's hammer in and he can do so many cool things with his grinder it's unreal.

I think the surface grinder is $1,500 for the 13" but I can't remember for sure.
A dedicated machine could be found for less but then you would want to convert to belt which would cost ya some $$.
I chose it because space is limited in my shop and Travis's is accurate and can take bigger bites then a dedicated machine.

It's a lot of money but its well worth it. I would buy it again without question.

The maximizer is an amazing machine, but I probably would not make it my primary machine.

If I had the budget, it absolutely would be my second machine and get used quite a lot. It's an impressive unit, especially in person.

OK men, thanks for the input, I've left a message for Travis and am waiting to speak to him, but I think that is the way I'm leaning. The Maximizer just looks to be so well made, it got my attention at BladeShow.

I would never buy that grinder because of how that guy looks in the video.

HA !

The t shirt, haircut and watch are bad choices, I agree.

I agree a secondary grinder.

Too much $ for what you get, powder coating / hard annodizing is nice, but not worth $1,000

What a stupid statement!:thumbdn::barf:
Well I'm glad I didn't judge him that way. Unless you've met him, you wouldn't know how unbelievably smart he is.

Just as an example, Tim Hancock greatly respects Travis as a person, Knife maker and engineer.
I can't believe how generous he has been toward me.
Travis is a friend for life.
