Maxipedition Packs

I have a falcon II and love the thing. Best pack I ever owned. I've even switched to using it for work as the main area fits my 15" laptop perfectly and also accomodates my day calendar. I can also stick my Nikon with 18-200 mm lens in the 2ndary pocket. Every pocket seems to be strategically placed for maximum organization and ease of finding stuff. The pack is comfortable to carry and despite what many have said about the waist strap, I find that it works effectively for me. I love the fact that this pack cinches down to nothing when empty and expands considerably to accommodate more that it should on dimensions. Then there is all that lovely molly webbing. Great pack and perhaps the most robust material I've come across.

Theyre still awesome bags

Indeed. I have no gripes with Taiwan whatsoever. In terms of the political situation of things they are generally thought of as the "good China," for a number of reasons. They make good stuff there, too! :)

Kgd,
Do you use the water bladder or 10X5 water bottle holders attached to the side of the pack?

Bought a Sitka like Brian NH and like it a lot. Especially good for all the little outside pockets to carry stuff you want to get at all the time. Comfortable too.

I would recommend the Pygmy Falcon II as the best pack Maxpedition makes for your intended use. I have one I use for hunting and also for EDC and it works great.

I like this pack a lot. I haven't seen this before...gonna have to look into getting me one. :D

I really like my Maxpedition Devil Dog. You can store quite a bit of gear in the main section using divider trays.

This is coming from a guy who manufactures PINK knives and actually uses them.

Real men don't care what anyone else thinks, and carry whatever they want, including your pink Izulas!

i agree i carry a man purse all the time sometimes with a pink izula. when i dont wanna be tied down with my tt 3day pack or a full ruck i carry a 5.11 p.u.s.h pack or a maxped monsoon. i could give a f%^@ what someone thinks about it. me and my best friend both prefer small messenger style bags along with small easily concealable blades and smaller handguns for sd, my good friend whos in a gay punk rock band (and in case you couldnt tell is flameingly gay) carrys huge tacticool knives and guns and is an excellent s.a.w gunner. what you carry has no bearing on your sex or sexuality. end of story.

Well I ordered a Falcon 2 with a 12 X 5 bottle holder from 2 wolves outdoor. Now the waiting game...

Kgd,

Not to answer for KGD, but I have a Falcon-II too, and I used both a bladder and bottle holders. I tried it out with my 10x4 bottle holder on one side, but it felt too unbalanced for me, so I switched to two mini-rollypollys (one on each side). This set-up works best for me if I want to carry bottles; it's lower profile and doesn't feel as bulky. I think having two 10x4/12x5 bottle holders on either side works fine, but it'd probably be too bulky for me. The nice thing about the bottle holder route, should you decide to go that way, is the insulation and the zipper closure for the bottle compartments.

I did a review thread on the Falcon-II a while back: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=619078

Really an excellent pack, tough and well designed. Great for a neat freak like me. Be aware though that if you use a bladder and stuff the pack enough, you will feel the fill port on your back. Not that bad and can be solved in a variety of ways, it just slightly annoyed me at first. If you decide on bottle holders, you should have no problem.

If you're deciding between the Falcon-II and Pygmy, don't let the bottle holder pockets be the deciding factor. You can always go with bottle holders or mini-rollypoly's on the sides. And the Falcon-II isn't much larger, at only about 100 cubic inches larger.

I'm selling my Maxped Falcon, it's just not as comfortable as I'd like it to be once I start loading it up. Not horrible, but I wanted something with a better load bearing belt, more room, and a few different features (have an Osprey now that I am very pleased with) for hiking. I only have enough funds for one hiking pack right now, so I wanted something that can double for dayhikes and longer overnight trips. The Falcon falls a little short on room for me.

If you go light and pack little, it's a great pack though. I think I will buy another Falcon-II down the line, when I have more funds, for EDC use. I love the layout and organization of the pack .

Thanks rksoon. Thats a great review and still reading it. Well thought out load you have. Very cool.

You're welcome milani  I should update the review later with things I've learned after using the pack for a bit, that was more of an initial review.

The belt is a Blackhawk CQB Belt, very sturdy . I carry less on my belt now (only knife, sak, and guyot in mini-rollypoly), but still prefer to use that belt since it's so secure.
