Maxpedition bottle holder

Hmm... I wonder why this would be better than my Devildog.

The bottle is insulated, but I normally carry room temp water anyway.

I usually carry the water for my wife and I both, and the Devildog holds 2 nalgene bottles.

I suppose this might be nice if it were just me and I only needed 1 bottle.

Yeah.... I really like Tony's setup and have been wanting to get one myself

J ... what's the cocoon pouch for ????

Cocoon pouch is just for added storage. If you look at Jozillas thread in the link I posted, he has one on the bottle holder.

Nosh-
I wouldnt call it better then your devildog. Just differant, maybe lighter. It all together would be more expensive then a devildog, and have less storage. I wanted something for simple dayhikes, that was light and I could still haul the basics in. If I carry more supplies or food, I would just grab my pack instead of this.

All in all, just another option for carryin the essentials.

Good enough  I do like the setup. There are times that the devildog is overkill. Let us know how you like it when you get it all put together.

How do you like the SteriPen?

My only concern with it was filtering out floating crap. Do you you have to make sure you find a clear water source to use it?

The water bottle in my pics above has a pre-filter screwed onto it to filter out any debris that might otherwise get into the water. It's designed to work with the steripen for when the water source is less than ideal.

I just noticed that. I'm a dolt.

Great set up.

I have both the DD and the bottle holder. I love them both. I use the holder alone for short treks out and the DD for all day affairs. I swap the DDs strap over to the holder when I'm taking it out. Works great. For an over night I use my Mini Falcon II. Now I just a large pack for longer outings.

That holder is perfect to strap to the side seat of the car. I'll post a pic up later

you guys are such a bad influence..:o now i want one of these too...:D they do look pretty darn cool...

They do! I held off for a long time, but finally gave in!:o

Joe that sounds neat, I was talkin to a buddy of mine about em, and he is gonna snag one to mount on his deer stand.

Ok, got all my goodies and put em together.

Initial impressions are tha this is a bombproof, well made setup. Super comfy to wear, theshoulder pad helps alot with the weight loaded. In the main compartment, I have a nalgene and GSI cup. In the lid is some 550 cordage coiled up.

In my Cocoon pouch I have--
-hunk of fatwood
-tin of fatwood sawdust
-brunton button compass
-fox whistle
-peanut lighter
-bamboo spork
-Fishing kit with shot, hooks, a couple spinners, and a tiny spool with alot of fishing line
- streamlight nano
- benedryl and asprin
-water tablets
-scalpel blade
-small pencil
-small birthday candle
-piece of mousepad w/2000 grit sandpaper
-small roll of duct tape
-small survival saw

Front pocket-
-K&M matchsafe with strike anywhere matches
-SAK farmer
-LMF scout firesteel
-AMK heat sheet
-2 glowsticks

Looking at all this, it is alot of gear for such a small setup. I am gonna add another pouch to the other side for a space blanket and FAK. I think thats well rounded kit. I can mount my knife to the strap or carry it on my belt(which I prefer)

Critique my kit please...I need feedback!

I always carry my tin PSK I got from Doc in my pocket as well.

Anything overkill here? Should I swap out some stuff?

Ok, I realized I had one of them pocket orginizers from county comm. What I did was mount it to the other side, and filled it with FAK goodness. 8 sterile 4X4s, roll of kerlex in one half, other half has flat of bennadryl, vazaline gauze, alchohol and iodine preps, One handed tq. I then took a roll of coban and wrapped it around one side of a carabiener, and looped it through one of the elastic loops. High speed. All contained so if I zip it open, nothing falls out.

I then removed my batteries, and put in an AMK heat sheet, and 2 glowsticks.

Nobody? Cmon guys I am tryin to streamline this kit to my Go-To kit for everything. I ideally will just remove the shoulder strap, and add it to a Maxpidition Falcon for extended trips.

Anyone have any changes they would make?

I might be naive for thinking this, but do you really need all the tinder prep stuff (the fatwood and the fatwood sawdust)? If it is just for convenience sake, then by all means. In terms of necessity though.....I think you could probably cut those two things out.

Keep in mind this is coming from someone who has yet to experience the glory of fatwood. I have never had an issue with finding viable tinder to get my fire started.

One thing I'm curious about is the mousepad with the sand paper. How well does that work? I have a spyderco sharpmaker, an ez-lap diamond pocket stone and a double sided larger coarse-medium grit stone. I'm always interested in new methods and I've heard of the mousepad technique in the past, but I've never tried it.

Jlouis ... you need to try lighting a fire with fatwood... awesome just awesome.

I mean you could use that or PJCB's but you would want to include one in your kit.
