Maxpedition Experience?

Hi,

For my 1 to 2 day hikes I'd like a Maxpedition Jumbo Versipack.
Are there people here who have Maxpedition packs and what do you think of them?

Also I'd like to know if you carry your knife IN the versipack or outside?
I was thinking about an Jumbo ''S'' type, that would ride on my left side so that my knife and sheath could be carried on mij right hand(stronger) side.

If you have any experiences, please let me know!

Thanks!;)

1) Maxpedition is reliably well-made and durable.

2) You need to measure the cubic capacity you need fr your gear to be sure the particular Maxped item will hold it. Some of them seem large but the capacity is broken up among many smaller pockets.

3) Many people find a Gearslinger is OK for shortterm carry but for day hikes or beyond, you might be better off with one of their backpacks.

I have been EDC'g a Sitka for 5 months now, and I am very happy with it. I dig all modular additions, and for me, that bag has all the right compartments in all the right places.

I also really like the small belt kit made from a 10x4 H2O bottle holder.
A 10x4 H2O bottle holder is the main part with a cocoon pouch and a 7x5x2 low pro pouch (used to use a M1, but it was to bulky) all attached w/ tac-ties and I put it all on a 1.75" 5.11 BDU belt. It is perfect for excursions from the main camp when not a lot of gear is required. I should also note that my RC3Mil is attache to the 10x4 and a RC6 is attachd to the BDU belt.

I know, I know... pictures...I'll try to get a few tonight.

The 10x4 H2O bottle holder is definitely a great base item for a light hike. I was surprised how large the front pocket is, for a small med kit, flashlight, and SAK. It clips easily to a larger bag, too.

I tried the Maxpedition Jumbo Versipack and could not stand it. I tried to use it for traveling and day hikes. I did not like the way it put stress on just one sholder/neck muscle on one side. Me right arm seemed to always rub a stap or the bag.

The bag has wasted some space with the smaller front pouches. These were okay for going through the airport but not usefull in the field for me. I could only get one 32oz bottle attached to the bag.

I went back to my German surplus ($15) rucksack. I sticheda Mora knife sheath inside the ruck. I leave the Mora knife at home when going to the airport.

I could use a water blader in the ruck but most of the time I just use the side pockets to carry two 32oz water bottles.

Gave the Maxpedition Jumbo Versipack to a friend. He has not found a use for it yet.

I have the Fat Boy and the Octa waist pack. I prefer the Octa pack for my hikes though I'm only walking 2-3 miles at a time.

Id I were going to be out for a day or two, I'd be using a back pack with two shoulder straps. Here's a pic of the Octa pack. The pic is from the Lighthound site.

I've added the Anemone pouch, two Mini Rollypolys to carry water, and a flashlight sheath. Nice outfit.

I have a Falcon II that I recently purchased with 2 12 X 5 bottle holders on the sides. I couldnt be happier with the pack. Well made, lots of useful organized pockets, and modular.

I have been eyeing Maxpedition bags for a long time. I wanted to like the versipack because of the CCW access, but I couldn't get past the feeling that it looks alot like my wife's purse!! I have no interest in the slip packs because of the single strap vs weight problems as mentioned above. I finally settled on the Condor II and placed my order this morning. I am anxiously awaiting my first Max Pack and have high hopes for it.

I have a few small Maxpedition pounches, I am very pleased with the quality, and think the designs are clever and well thought out.
I'll be getting more definitely. A school/edc bag, and maybe a larger one for hiking.

Only complaint is that the small pouches and accessories are overpriced. (but their backpacks seem about par for the course)

I have the Maxpedition Jumbo S type and I like it. For shorter hikes, I like the bottle holder.

Pygmy Falcon 2? Thats what I'm looking at. Put up some pics with it on :D

i had it and traded it to TTD for bark river mikro canadian..then i stole mr shotty's colossus. i have issues w/ the strap b/c i'm a girl. other then that i like the bags. i carry in the back pouch but the jumbo doesn't have that. i like all the little pockets so i can sperate everything.

From what I've gotten from my research is if you want a Jumbo you may as well step up to a Colossus. Ambidextrous more room but still smallish. I'm still in a quandary and may get a small pack like the Pygmy Falcon. I like the idea of a one strap but if I'm active I get the opinions that they slap you around to much?? The Gearslingers you may get tired if overloaded?? The Versipack are suppose to be more comfortable but not as stable. The Gearslingers had the extra strap to keep stable. I dunno I don't have one yet. I should just buy a couple and return the ones I don't like but co$t to much. I wish they were sold nearby. Good luck :)
Maybe ppl will post pics so you can get scale of the murse :)

I have a Jumbo, a Jumbo S and the 10x4 Bottle holder and I LOVE them all! I think they make a great product.

I have the fatboy, and rolly polly extreme. They are both great bags and can be used for multiple purposes. I carry my fatboy ( with my Glock ) most of the time when I'm out and about.......I know I know its a man purse, but I added the janus extension pocket and that enables me to carry it across my shoulder with the bag on my lower back( so its not hanging on my side like a purse). As for the rolly polly extreme, I use it while out at the ranch on the 4 wheeler, the hydration pack is a great feature, and it has plenty of room for other stuff.
The bottom line is Maxpedition makes great gear, and with such a huge variety of products, its just a matter of finding which one works best for you.

Here is my pack last month. I have since revised it a bit and addded some things, but you get the idea of the pack itself. This is the Falcon II, not the Pigmy Falcon II.

Thanks you all for the quick responses!

Horndog, Jetblack and Stormstaff, how does the versipack ride when you walk?
Is it wobbly, or constantly shifting? That would be a major turn off.
Also I'm curious what you think is the advantage of carrying a bag with only one sling instead of two shoulderstraps.

Thanks in advance! ;)
