Maxpedition??

The only thing I'd change on my Fatboy and Jumbo Versipacks are the shoulder straps. I'd make them longer. Otherwise, I like them fine.

Buy the MaxP Janus Extension Pocket. It comes with a strap extender that can be seperated from the pouch and used alone if you choose. Use the pouch inside the gearslinger or leave it at home.

I have a Malaga gear slinger, bulletproof construction, materials, and craftsmanship. A bit pricey, but I can't see wearing this thing out in my lifetime.

IUKE12 - would you be able or mind posting a few pics of your malaga in use, whether in the woods or on the streets?
I'm trying to get an idea of how tight to the body one can wear this thing before I shell out the money for one. As an EDC-bag, I need to be able to move fast or jog with it on and not have it slapping around the way a messenger bag strapped high&tight does...
Does it strap comfortably to your upper-back or do you have to have it sagging the way MilSpecMonkey and the kid on youtube wear theirs? I was hoping for a bag to wear on my back, not on my waist.

Maybe this will spur others to post their own pics of Maxped gear in use

I've had a few sling bags (Typhoon, Sat-Com bag, home-rigged shoulder bag) and I don't think you'll find it comfortable to wear it high on your back, especially if they are packed heavy. To do that with a sling bag, the strap has to be really shortened down, which makes it cut across your neck and tight under the opposite armpit. IMO they ride better lower down. If you really want it high, I think the Typhoon-style off-center strap design would get you closest.

I wear my typhoon low, around the small of my back. Any higher and its hard to get on and off, and hurts my neck. Plus if you want to rotate it around to get stuff like it was designed you have to wear it lower.

I’m not IUKE12 but I own a Malaga and can attest that it is built like a little tank. It will ride as tight as a backpack or as loose as a messenger bag depending on how tight you cinch it and whether or not you use the supplemental strap that comes with the bag. Here are a few pics of my Malaga with the extra strap in place. You can see how tight and secure it is…

BlueSky,
Thanks for the advice. The other bag I am thinking about is the off-center Sitka. Both bags have the pocket-divisions I'm looking for, MOLLE compatibility, and are compact. But I like the ambidexterity and wider dimensions of the Malaga - in my work, I tend to carry around a lot of papers and folders which I don't think would fit as well in the Sitka... Damn, now I have to figure which I prefer more - high&tight comfort for moving fast, or not having to try and squeeze my papers into the main pouch :(

JRB,
Thanks much for the great pics! The sucker looks solid and like it isn't going to be flapping around much if you need to pick up the pace... Man, i wish I had a dealer nearby so i could try the candidates on before making a decision.
Anyway, thanks again for "modeling" the bag - it really gives a better sense of what it looks like and how it handles in use. Thank you!

That's exactly why I purchased the Malaga. I was initially going to buy a Lunada (the next size down gearslinger) but it wasn't able to carry a folder or 8 1/2" X 11" sheat of paper. The Malaga is the perfect size for that. A folder will slip in the main compartment easily but without a lot of room to slide around.

i use a Neat Freak to carry my asus netbook...and a Thermite on short hikes and walking the dog...i also have a malaga...

one issue i don't like with the Gearslinger series is that they don't carry well on the "same shoulder", as they are optimized for cross shoulder carry...on bags smaller than the malaga (lunada and remora) it is a problem for me because i frequently carry same-shoulder; the versapacks carry great either same or cross shoulder...
