Not sure if this is the venue, if not I apologize.

How long is an acceptable waiting period from time of purchase (in stock)to when it gets put in the mail? I feel that I'm quite patient when it comes to waiting for deliveries but if the merchant can't seem to mail within a couple of days I get frustrated. I think 7 working days and counting are a little extreme, granted I am International (Canada not Papua New Guinea).
I can't seem to understand what the problems are, this is the second time I have encountred this delay. Once with Cutlery Shoppe (10 days to mail) haven't ordered since. And now with AG Russell which to me is surprising because they come highly recommended from the forum folks. It just seems that no one is interested in processing my order in a timely fasion. I have ordered from the States before and the merchant had it in the mail a day or two later. So I know it can be done. I thought Mr. Russell would be the King of mail order:)
So guys, am I being unrealistic and living in a dream world and should just relax and wait or would this be an issue for you as well?
I know there is NOTHING bad to say about both those merchants except the time it takes to process orders to Canada. I could have drove down and been back with my new toys already. mind you quite a bit more costly. Canadians like our toys just as fast as you guys.

If the item is listed "in stock" the one to two business days is enough time to get it in the mail. Selling and shipping is their business and if they can't be more efficient than 7+ days then something is wrong with their operation. In my experience with late shipping, it's most often something thats listed in stock that actually isn't. That really burns me. If I called a local store to check on a products availability then drive to the store only to find it's not there, i'm gonna be pissed take my money else where. Same thing for the online retailers. Don't waste the customers time with misinformation.

If its in stock I expect shipment in less the 24 hours. Weekends excluded. Anything close to 7 working days and I would ask for a refund or dispute the charges with paypal or my CC

I can't speak for AG Russell, but a lot of "in stock" knives you see online is done in virtual inventory, where the knives are not at the online store's B&M location, but held at a regional distributor. When you buy, oftentimes your payment has to clear before they submit an order for the knife from the distributor. THen the distributor will either ship to the e-tailer, or they may drop-ship directly to you. This takes additional days. The online shop merely serves as a middleman and takes a small profit for facilitating the transaction.

Sometimes, the product wasn't in stock even at the distributor, then you really are screwed.

I've done numerous orders with AG and every one shipped either the same or the next day.
It's possible what you ordered was not immediately in stock, but they expected it within a day or two. If that was the case, you should have been notified, but I've gotten the impression they are not exactly cutting-edge when it comes to e-mail communications.
I wouldn't let that experience keep you from ordering from AG, excellent company overall.
Next time you might want to call, I've been told by their personnel that is the best way to make positive what you want is immediately available.

10 days to ship is borderline absurd and unacceptable.
Dont' know about Cutlery Shoppe, but I know some on-line dealers seem to list nearly everything they sell as "in stock" when in reality they stock very little and only get it from their distributor once they have your order. Could be what you encountered.

I just had this same issue with Optics Planet. I ordered 7 different items and only after I paid I found out that only 1 of which was in stock. There was no listing on the website to let you know. I hate when only dealer do that!!! So I cancelled the 6 items that were out of stock. Then it took a month for them to get me the 1 item they did have "in stock". I was not pleased and will not be using there services again.

Wanted to post an update to the OP. Just to let everyone know, A.G. Russell does stand behind his commitment to customer satisfaction. He went above and beyond with a personal inquiry to my issues that were presented here. I dont think you could do much better than that. I am of the belief that this was one off mishap and not common practice within his organization (sometimes stuff happens...I get it). By him taking the time to figure out what happened, made me feel like an important customer (the way it should be). Those are the actions of a world class business.
So to recap.... 1 the delay with A.G. Russell was a hicup in the process - not typical
2 A.G. Russell contacted me to see what happened and address my concerns
3 Customer (me) is satisfied
4 time to shop....yippee
Mr. Russell A BIG THANKS to you, please have a seat on your throne sir. :)
