Maybe it's time to move on from ZT

The lock on my 0566 was very hard to disengage at first also. It took a little while for it to break in, but I can unlock and close it one-handed with ease now, even with cold hands in the rain. It's my favorite folder now that the lock is broken-in and I removed the torsion bar.

Different market entirely.

Well, the way I see with KAI is:
Shun = kitchen
Kershaw = a wide range of EDC choices, with many smaller models
Zero Tolerance = beefier/bigger folders (and a few fixed blades)

I got rid of my 550 & 560 ;nothing wrong with them, just got bored with them, and I am tired of the hinderer designs.I did get a 0200 after not having one since it first came out, forgot how great that knife is ,especially with the stonewashed blade.

Thanks for the suggestion I'll check on it later. Could just be my hand just isn't a good fit with this knife. Weird cause they're just average non-outlier hands
Are you sure the handle screws are tight? The reason I ask is because if the handle slabs are loose and you try to disengage the lock some of the force you use to push on the lockbar actually pushes the face of that bar into the tang of the knife creating more friction. If you handle is tightened down properly inpect the cut in the lockbar and see if the gap between it and the frame reduces as you close disengage it. if there is a problem with the lockbar flexing that will let you know.

Mine is too
The blade is dead on centered and lock up is solid and tight.

Yeah debating whether to send it back or not. I could spend $10 and still be unhappy with a new knife. Like I said earlier maybe for some weird reason my hand and this knife do not work together.
Rather than giving up on the knife or the company, have you considered sending it in for warranty? I think people totally disregard this option too often.

Should we only post about knives when it's all lollipops and rainbows. I have plenty of those posts. I'm just here on a knife discussion forum talking about some knives I recently received...
I bought a benchmade once. It was the 300SN. Wasn't that impressed. It didn't flip very well and the ergos just weren't there for me. I didn't make a thread about it.

I really don't understand why people do this. I can see starting a thread to ask if this or that is normal.. But just making a thread to let us all know that you're disappointed in a company? What good does that do?

I've had at least three or four 0550's, of which one was sticky. The rest were perfect.
I've had a lot of ZT's in various models. Generally, ZT's are made purposely quite heavy and capable of heavy-duty use, by military or law enforcement. Because of the weight, I have seldom carried one for very long at all.
However, my latest ZT is the 0770CF in M390...at three ounces, and it's a great flipper in my book. I really like this one.
You might wish to try it.

Meanwhile, I'm still lusting after the 0620CF I bought back on September 11th that was supposed to arrive at the retailed in "1-2 weeks". So I can't say I've moved on yet, between the 0562CF, 0454, and 0801 keeping me company :D

Between MAP, stories of loose QC and some of the personalities involved my interest in ZT is dead and buried. Nothing wrong with other people enjoying them, but I'd rather just stay away at this point.

Loose quality control? All of mine have been perfect, and I haven't heard any more people complaining about their ZTs than I do for Spydercos and benchmades. If they aren't your thing, that's fine, just say it.....But IMO ZT is making some great knives right now:thumbup:

Never understood what all the rage was about with the hinderers and zt knives, for the price there are so many more options, about half the cost.

Mine took a spell or two of being sticky. I took a pencil lead to it when it did and it would work fine for a few days. It has since worn in and quit sticking.

Discussing issues with knives is fine. I believe the point was that asking a more specific question will yield helpful responses. General complaints about an entire company seems to encourage a dog pile, and the thread spirals downward from there.

I purchased a 0566 here on the exchange, and when I received it the lock seemed sticky and hard to disengage. I took apart the knife to clean it, and noticed that the lock bar seemed to be bent inward at too aggressive of an angle. I removed the over-travel disc and bent the lock bar back towards the handle a small amount. This improved both the smoothness of the blade motion and completely removed the lock stick. I am always amazed at what a difference a little fine tuning can make.

Have over 30 ZTs and never had an issue with a single one.... I I think about sending it in to be fixed they have like the best customer service in the market. Remember its still a production knife and no matter how hard they try some with issue will make it out the door

I never saw a problem with any zt ive ever owner, they are great knives, just bored with the 550 & 560...

Maybe the ZT stories just stick out in my mind more because of the backlash that seems to occur whenever they pop up, maybe it's just confirmation bias on my part, but all things considered it's a chance I'd rather not take. Glad to hear you've had good experiences with yours, but kindly don't imply I'm lying when I state my reasons.

ZT is about as good as a production company can get, as far as quality of materials, production and quality control.

If ZT doesn't meet expectations, I'm not sure what would, short of a Sebenza or custom.

Of the 6 zts i have had the 566 & 200 were the only ones that weren't perfect. The 200 had a weak detent which they are notorious for. The 566 was a bear to open and close. Once deassisted it was a great manual flipper. It was a little bit small for me though.

My 550, 301, & both 0560s are perfect.

I'm not trying to imply that, I was just curious as to where you got such a negative opinion of ZTs.
