MD / HI / GH / Uluchet

Hey! After I was done smart assing on the prior comment I realized that I had read somewhere about the Seal test and how badass the ATAK was and blah blah blah can't burn it, can't break it, you need it cause it's indestructable... Anyway I went to CFK&T and clipped this bit out of their page...

www.knifeandtool.com/knives/maddog/trials.html

"The tests detailed in the article above, while abusive, dangerous, and utterly destructive, WILL NOT void the warranty on your Mad Dog knife. We would not show you something, challenge you to duplicate it, then fail to stand behind our product should it fail. Feel free to duplicate these tests with the understanding that experimenting with sharp edged implements can be EXTREMELY hazardous to your health in the event that you make an error. "

So if I were to purchase a MD ATAK this applies but apparently it does not apply to the TUSK. Is there a different warranty on the TUSK.

That is not Mad Dog's warrenty. His is a simple parts and manufacturing one. The warrenty you quote is from Earl Stewart, most dealers quote a similar one.

O.K.

So if I buy one from Earl and I break it Earl replaces it. But if I get one directly from MD and break it I replace it, if it is not a mfg. defect (as determined by MD).

Sounds like it would be a better deal to go through a dealer than through MD directly then.

Hi SammyB,

The warrenty MD states in the forums is materials and workmanship. This is the one he supports.

What is in the MD catalog goes something like this, unconditional guarenteed for life, no fine print. This is from memory so check out a catalog for the exact wording.

Gentlemen:
FYI, the guarantee on the Uluchet (that's it on the opening page) is this. If you break or damage it we will repair or replace it, no questions asked, PERIOD. We build it to do whatever you need, whenever you need it, 'cause if a knife can't survive the situation, your odds aren't much better.

Just a note from Gurkha House: our guarantee is no-questions. I personally guarantee each knife that leaves my hands. Although I have a few select retailers(i.e. Knife Outlet, Peter Frye, Sid Post), if you should happen to buy one from them and it breaks, send it back to them (or me) and you'll get a new one. In other words, my unconditional guarantee applies to every Gurkha House Khukuri - not just the ones I sell directly. Incidentally, what do I guarantee on my knives? Factory defects, user defects, unhappiness - anything except RUST (high carbon steel will rust if not treated with protectant, and I can't change physics). I even guarantee handles. I know that means I'll get a couple of knives back eventually, but I don't care. I also guarantee that your knife will work when you need it to. If you do find yourself hacking your way out of a car after you've driven it off a bridge - the blade may suffer a bit like they do in Cliff's tests - but it will still function. Of course, if you use your Gurkha House Khukuri to save your life and it chips or the handle cracks, I consider that money well spent by you and by me.
