I've been looking for another "hard use" folder and saw the medford TFF1 and LOVE the design. A very important factor in buying a knife for me is customer sevice/ warranty. Has anyone out there dealt with medford, if so how was it? Any help will be appreciated :)

I didn't own a TFF1, I had a Praetorian T. Greg Medford is an awesome guy. He truly cares about his customers and it shows in everything he does. When I bought mine from his booth, he said to call him any time if I had any issues. He gives everyone his personal cell number with every knife. I've heard stories of him personally handling customer service issues rather than a representative on the phone. The ONLY reason I sold my Praetorian was Greg's policy on disassembly. Disassembly voids your warranty and for a knife with a D2 blade I felt not being able to clean the pivot might cause problems down the road. If that's not a concern of yours, they are absolutely worth the price. Very strong, very ergonomic, and surprisingly high slicing ability for a thicker blade. Personally, if you have the means, I'd go with a coated S35VN blade and full Ti handle scales and hardware. That will be a practically maintenance free knife that will stand up to tons of use.

Awesome thanks, how would he know if you dissasembled the knife?? So I couldn't take it apart for even a cleaning??

You shouldn't have to disassemble a knife to clean it, especially that one. Washing it soapy water and rinsing, should it even ever get that dirty would be all that is needed. I've yet to see one of those knives that is has needed to be taken down and cleaned up.
Apparently it is not all sunshine and rainbows, like with any manufacturer.

You're right Rev, on both counts. Every manufacturer has issues, but I personally had a great experience with Medford. On the cleaning/disassembly, I'm just weird about stuff like that. It's a real pet peeve to not be able to fully disassemble a knife and clean it. That's just me though, many people don't feel the need and it works for them.

I suggest researching him a bit more.

He just had a lot of drama come out after a customer sent him a knife to get an estimate on repairs. Greg fixed it without authorization or providing an estimate (which is illegal btw) and then tried to charge the customer $250. When the customer balked, Greg auctioned the knife away to pay the bill.

All detailed in the most recent episode of Gear Geeks Live and on Knife Thursday.

He sounds like a swell guy.

I have also heard from several people that he's a bit of a racist. I personally don't see any utility in knives like his and have never had a desire to own one so I don't follow the cloud of drama that seems to continuously follow him.

I have a Medford Arktika, Praetorian G, Praetorian T, and Viper. Let's do it like this:
KNIVES: I think they're awesome. I do construction and they get used. None have developed blade play, slop or stick. Solid as hell no problems whatsoever.
WARRANTY: haven't used it. Says he'll warranty it for life as long as you don't open it. I don't know man, just don't open it? I haven't, and seriously I never will. Why would I piss away a $750+ knife just to look inside it or try to fix it myself? As far as the cleaning thing goes, he just put a video up about it. Just rinse it in water, blow it out. He said it's packed with tetflon grease from airplane landing gear so it should keep crap out of the pivot. As far as knowing if you opened it, having a few of his knives I feel like they do things and make tiny marks on the knife hardware. Could be paranoia but knives having same marks on hardware is to coincidental for me.
GREG MEDFORD: I don't know him. All I know of him is from his youtube channel. What I get from him is that he is a very opinionated person that let's everyone know how he feels. If you agree with what he says you love him. If your views differ from his then you'll probably think he's nuts.

I also heard from my neighbors' barbers' garbage man that he donates alot to charity and does alot for veterans.
But since I didn't experience it myself I probably shouldn't talk about it, I could be spreading something that could be wrong, it is hearsay after all.
This is all my own opinion that probably means nothing to anyone lol. But I honestly tried to be unbiased.

I have owned a Viper and currently own a Praetorian G. I had some serious issues with the Viper from a previous owner screwing it up. Read that story here--> http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1185945-Medford-Knife-and-Tool-AWESOME!!!!!!
I think the knives themselves are seriously awesome. There are tons of internet snobs out there, so it's tough to take much of their advice seriously. Trust the advice of those that have held and used them, not "opined to their utility". As far as what I know of the designs, they are hard use minded. Much like a Strider AR, or a Carrillo custom. Big, bad, and a serious tool. The warranty has simple guidelines and I have spent tons of time talking to Greg. He is a very straight forward person. If the knife is not disassembled(uses a microscope to check for tooling/thread marks) then any alignment/lock up issues is taken care of. Break a blade in half and it's a discussion. Plenty of people do a lot of stupid things, can you expect a private shop to absorb tons of losses(READ:fixing knives for free when people do idiotic things to ruin them) for antics and abuse? Personally I like the fact he is straight forward, and it's clear he will take care of his customers. I can't speak to any here say or rumors to how he handled another persons situation. Much like any other situation, it turns into more of a story and spectacle the farther news travels. I will be buying a micro praetorian in the future, I think that is the best endorsement I can make.

So why post this shit, you heard it from who exactly. The guys a racist? Names?
You should have first hand experience before you post garbage, and no I don't have any of his knives.

Greg isn't a racist. You should also hear both sides of the story before badmouthing him. The guy that had the knife started saying that greg hated women and beat his kids. That's why when the knife was auctioned off the money went to a women's shelter charity. Greg has been super awesome to deal with. My viper had a couple issues, I thought it just needed to be broken in. After about 5 months it was still the same so I called them up and explained what the problems were. They told me to send it in and they would look at it. I got a call from Greg in person saying that the knife was toast, and they would be giving me a brand new one. So now I have a brand new Viper that's perfect. They are always super nice when you call the office and I can't wait to order a Praetorian Ti.

C'mon now Medford made a joke about the guy being from Canada in a earlier video and telling everyone to not make negative comments on the internet about his knives if you want them fixed. Then the guy started bashing Greg and told him to keep the knife, so then Greg decided to auctioned off the customers knife to a shelter near by. The whole situation was bad on both ends and wasn't a good look for a small business.

I know that Greg built a new knife for the guy after he calmed down, but it was never handled right.

Making a joke about a country doesn't make him racist, canadians aren't a "race". Was it handled perfectly? No. No one is perfect, but I have heard MANY more good stories about greg than bad. To spread rumors that he beats his wife? That's low.

In one video alone he insulted Muslims, non heterosexuals, and said he won't apologize. He also said he doesn't carry or use knives.

Some people care about who makes their knives. Some don't. I would prefer that my money support people of better character....and who actually carry and use knives. YMMV.

Muslims aren't are race, they are a religion who slaughter people. Greg carries a knife. Greg is former special ops, or something to that effect. I think he knows how to use knives.

Watch the video. He admits he doesn't carry or use knives.

And being a bigot is bad mmkay.

From watching that vid, he seems like a truckbro. "Duuuudde, I friggin' LOVE makin' knives, bro!" LOL He's probably a good guy to drink cheap beer with.
