Medford Production praetorian?

That's really not true. 3.5" blade, light, thin comfortable ergonomic handle, drops right in the front pocket. Not only that, but can be clipped in a pocket like a folder (depending the pocket) and not seen, or IWB, making it invisible and very fast to deploy. 3 carry options vs one for the folder, lighter, and stronger and way less $. There's a ton of great EDC fixed blades out there, and some may not realize the many choices that exist. A heavy overbuilt folder is more cons than pros in my view other than cool factor. If cool factor is what makes people happy, all good by me. I'm a pragmatist by nature, and tend to break things down that way. I will say those who have find the right EDC fixed blade for them, rarely go back to folders... Your mileage may vary.
I'm NOT against fixed blades . If I think I might need a knife for anything serious , hard , dirty , critical work , I'll always prefer fixed . Still have a ton of them available in our vehicles and close to hand at home .

Fixed was my main carry , for many decades . But now I'm old and lazy . Usually just don't need more than a couple of Cold Steel "hard use " huge folders in my pockets . These knives are both nearly 13" OAL , but fold to carry . Easy and comfortable , works for me !

Then you go IWB. Issue solved. Personally, no issues sitting etc with knife in the pic. It's very thin. Folder on the other hand due to width, is another matter. A folder clipped in pocket I don't find weight an issue, dropped into a pocket, very much so and it gets old fast. I can't speak to Benchmade SOCP as I have no experience with them.
IWB carry is the same way, and makes sitting down painful. I have done it and it is not optimal. Even the slim SOCP is no fun to carry around.

I'm standing and walking around more than the average person is while at work, but I'm still effectively hamstrung by carrying even a small fixed blade, to say nothing of the illegality of doing so in California.

All knives even folders have pros and cons and form vs function. Yes, they DO lose the weight and slim factor that folders usually have, but they gain way more cool points..and that's what knives are truly about..cool points.....

Cant't argue with that! I stand corrected...

When I am not at work I appendix carry and glock 19 on the right side and my Microtech on the left side.

I have no desire to carry a fixed blade in normal everyday life. On the trail or whatever else. I will carry fixed.

If you’re eyeing Medford knives, there’s a pretty solid chance it isn’t for practical reasons. A large percentage of the medford catalog is impractically proportioned / designed and leans heavily towards an industrial aesthetic.

If you want one, they’re out there, but they’re not going to be better cutting tools. I guess you could argue they have a place in self-defense, however, since throwing an 11oz chunk of metal at someone will buy you a lot of time to run away.

Big knives...I have an OnBelay, but got burned a bit during a warranty issue, so I'm hesitant to recommend the brand.

You’ll gain about 10 pounds.

You’ll lose a very good tool meant for cutting (PM2).

Absolutely. I was thinking “you’ll gain a pocket brick and lose the great cutting ability of your current carry”, and then I saw your post. Nailed it.
