Medium Choppa thread!!

It's a light medium chopper. Meaning it will have the profile of the medium chopper, but the thickness of the light chopper.

This is the medium chopper thread so I won't say how much I love the light chopper. Nope...I just won't. ☺️
I was a bit concerned for functionality of the LC as an all rounder off trail hiking + o/n camp tool. I take it you guys are keen for it?

Nathan has previously mentioned how the LC would fare well in a cutting competition, and how, because of its weight and size, it does a reasonable job as a small machete. So, while it may not be the "ne plus ultra", for me it's the perfect compromise in terms of size, weight and capability. (Clearly, your environment would dictate what works best, ultimately.)

I think the forthcoming piece from CPK, the light medium chopper, will become another CPK classic the moment it's released.

That's how I feel about my regular MC. The HDMC feels kinda redundant to me as I have other large bashing type choppers. To be honest, one of my favorite choppers of all time is the SYKCO 1311. It's a simple design, yet perfectly balanced and chops mighty well. I'm a chopper guy and have many of them to play with.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m on a mission to get my CPK chopper goodness underway, so if it goes on preorder I’ll be begging for a proxy (blatant sucking up) to snag me a spot for the LMC (3pm there is 3am here so I’ll like always miss the boat with his sales). My comments weren’t doubting the brilliance of CPK knives, just here in Australia a lot of our deadwood is very hard, so I was leaning towards the extra heft of a MC.

I have the MC, LC and had an HDMC that I sold.

The LC will hold up fine for backwoods use. The MC is just a bit stronger and heavier, which makes it a more efficient chopper.

It's really a personal preference between the two. As Blues mentioned, the lighter LC can be used as a short machete with its lighter swing weight.

Personally, the MC is my Goldilocks backwoods knife. Always been a fan of Large Camp Knives, and it ticks all the boxes for me. That said, I still have my LC as well, because it ticks different boxes for me.

As 91bravo noted though, when I got the HDMC, I found that it didn't really tick any boxes for me. Nathan made the option, as he put it, "for the Gorillas who like to break shit".

In my case, I didn't forsee any usage that would even come close to compromising the MC, so the HDMC was simply overbuilt for my usage/preferences. The thicker blade just added weight and compromised slicing/cutting, without any real advantages for my personal usage.

*** for greater 1-handed chopping power, I DO have a CPK Behemother, which is why I sold the HDMC and Behemoth.

The MC is just the right size and weight for me, for a do-all Large Camp Knife (9" - 10" blade). The Behemoth was bigger than I'd want to carry into the backwoods (and the longer blade makes it a bit harder to use for lighter duty tasks), while the Behemother has the advantage for 1-handed chopping, so I figured it made sense to pass the HDMC and Behemoth along to other CPK'ers who could enjoy them.

Just so you are aware, when it comes to CPK preorders, (any CPK preorders) there are NO proxies allowed per Nathan.

The only exception being, is if either Nathan or Jo personally pre approves you individually, ahead of time, on a case by case basis only.

For a preorder, you will just have to set your alarm and wake up to post your claim yourself, that’s just how preorders work, and it’s Nathan’s and Jo’s rules.

However, a proxy IS allowed on the normal 3pm EST Friday sales. Just be sure to follow the guidelines outlined in Post #1 in the Proxy Request Thread here:

You should also consider purchasing a Gold Membership ($30/year) here on Bladeforums.

Among the many extra benefits that come with that paid membership, (think Private Messages, direct picture posting, selling, etc…), it will greatly enhance your ability to take part with other paid members on a personal and private level vs public forum view.

You would be surprised how much action actually takes place to help each other (CPKer) out behind the scenes, away from the public’s eye.

Stick around, participate, make some new friends, and enjoy the BEST Sub Forum that Bladeforums has to offer (yes, I’m biased).

Welcome to CPK and Bladeforums D DRG80N
Cheers Mate 🍻

Awesome (well sort of - 3/4am with a toddler and work is no easy feat.). Thanks for the heads-up - I really want that MC (and just about every other knife in CPK's lineup) badly.
I had been thinking about membership as I get into the forums a bit more and graduate from noob - it seems like a great community.

Cheers for your kind post and for letting me know CPK's rules.

P.S - nice tagline :) 🍻
