I was a bit concerned for functionality of the LC as an all rounder off trail hiking + o/n camp tool. I take it you guys are keen for it?
I have the MC, LC and had an HDMC that I sold.
The LC will hold up fine for backwoods use. The MC is just a bit stronger and heavier, which makes it a more efficient chopper.
It's really a personal preference between the two. As Blues mentioned, the lighter LC can be used as a short machete with its lighter swing weight.
Personally, the MC is my Goldilocks backwoods knife. Always been a fan of Large Camp Knives, and it ticks all the boxes for me. That said, I still have my LC as well, because it ticks different boxes for me.
As 91bravo noted though, when I got the HDMC, I found that it didn't really tick any boxes for me. Nathan made the option, as he put it, "for the Gorillas who like to break shit".
In my case, I didn't forsee any usage that would even come close to compromising the MC, so the HDMC was simply overbuilt for my usage/preferences. The thicker blade just added weight and compromised slicing/cutting, without any real advantages for my personal usage.
*** for greater 1-handed chopping power, I DO have a CPK Behemother, which is why I sold the HDMC and Behemoth.
The MC is just the right size and weight for me, for a do-all Large Camp Knife (9" - 10" blade). The Behemoth was bigger than I'd want to carry into the backwoods (and the longer blade makes it a bit harder to use for lighter duty tasks), while the Behemother has the advantage for 1-handed chopping, so I figured it made sense to pass the HDMC and Behemoth along to other CPK'ers who could enjoy them.
