Be nice to me, or I'll give you a bad rating

I'm not sure I like the idea of being able to give someone a bad rating (and vice versa) just because we disagree or something.
I can see it now, "Figures, you don't show an email....or your member rating".
Can't see that doing anything but cause trouble.

well I got 5 stars.....whooohheeeee!
The new look is totally cool, now we just need a turbo booster on this thing and we are ready to rock and roll!!!!!

Leave it to Tom to figure out how to get a 5 star rating so quick!!

It can go either way. You can either look at it as a "I don't like you, so I'm going to give you a bad rating" thing, or you can see it as a "Well, maybe most people will vote how they feel about a person" thing and that it will all balance out.

Personally, I feel this is going to come in really handy in the trading forums.

It could come in real handy for trading, as a more easily accessed alternative to GB&U, but could start some real nasty flame wars as well. We'll have to see how well it works out here. I recommend everyone stock up on popcorn.

I think it will discourage some people from speaking honestly and intimidate lurkers. But I like all the gee gaws that come with the upgrade!

Yeah, the upgrade has some cool features. I'm very impressed!

Member ratings sounds like a ridiculously bad idea though. If there was some way to make the ratings appear only in posts on the trading forums, then it could come in handy. However, getting graded on general discussions doesn't sound very appealing.

I think over all the rating will work well. As the members around here are responsible. Even with the few that use it wrong, I still think it will go more in the favor of the person. I think we should only be able to use this function in exchange though.

One thing I don't like about the upgrades is that you have to know the persons number. I tried searching under individual names and it did not work. I hope this can be changed as I can't remember everyone's numbers

I do not like the idea of anonym rating so i will boykott it.
You can do the same, just change your profile and do not rate others.

**If anybody feels the need to tell me or the other members what an §$%&**/& or what a nice guy i am feel free to use my e-mail adress or post it here.**

I reckon it could be misleading and I gave Tom a 1 for the hell of it

I agree that the rating feature is a poor idea. It will discourage honest dialogue and encourage politics. The connection between a rating and the trading forums is most concerning. Let's say a guy doesn't jump on the cheerleader squad for knife "X" and pisses off some of the faithful, he'll get a bad rating which may discourage someone from trading with him over at the FS/T-Individual Board, even though he may be most honorable in his dealings.

I like to chew the rag about knives and learn from the many knowlegable people here that so generously share what they know. I do not come here to politic.

P.S. The beers are on me if you guys give me some stars.

NOT in favor of a "rating" system in a general discussion forum. The most miserable S.O.B. in the valley might just be the person to contact for the information I'm looking for. BTW, will spelling count?

I think the ratings should only be used in the sale/trade forum it might discourage people from speaking there mind and it will give some sort of power to those that strive for a 5 star rating ?? with that aside i think the upgrade is cool just hope it speeds up

If it means that much to you, you can TURN OFF the display of your own rating. It can be done in the 'my profile' link then 'View/Update Profile'.

I may not agree with what someone says but I would not rate them.

Who am I to judge others on this board?

The ratings will be better over time as more people rate you. I member rating of 5 stars with only 1 person rating them should be taken with a grain of salt.

It should be used as a guide, not the final thought on how a person is or conducts business. But if you see a VERY low rating and several people have rated them you may want to check out if there is a full story in the GBU.

I can see where this rating thing is going to become a problem. Unlike with Ebay everyone gets to rank everyone else, on whatever crateria, and there is no explanation or paper trail to clear things up. If we keep the feature turned on I can only hope we will have an appeals process to review alleged inequities.

And just what's with all of this "log In" and "Log Out" BS?
