I had to think about posting this photo...
But I did because I know the knife maker, Ian V. from Amarillo, Texas.
I spent the night at his house and ate super with him and his wife Linda.
Ian's originally from South Africa. (He's not in the photo below.)

This thread is one of the best.

Al: Incredible postings!

Hey Al.....I appreciate your throwing up the many cool photos that you are ....but what are your memories of the antique stuff?....how about identifying the "mystery" photos?....maybe a little more personal content, and a little less "random"?

What Gus started was very personal...and the direction you are taking it seems to be much less so.

This thread is one of the best.

Incredibly random without any context, Jim....that helps not many.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

No the photography is not too great, but the memories are.

Don Fogg, Margaret and Bill Moran.

Feel free to post yours.
^^^ Original post. Ya know..... Methinks you're reading too deeply into this. :)

I'd only wish I'd know what some of the unposted names are. That's my only minor critique.

Bill Moran at the forge at the 1st Moran Hammer-in in 2003:

Jerry Fisk forging at 2005 1st Fisk Hammer-in:

Don Fogg Forging Jelly Roll Damascus at the 2009 ABS Auburn, ME Hammer-in:

Don's Damascus:

It was great to watch 3 Masters doing what they did so well.

This photo cracks me up; the guy standing behind Bob is an old friend of Bob's and a shop regular to this day. He always laughs like you see in the picture but you can't tell if something is funny or he is laughing at you. He could be laughing at something Bob said, at Bob, or the Strider in Bob's hand.

The least pleasing to the eye is Brett Dowell

Not really.....and that is sort of my point....good stuff, no context.

I'm sure its the Strider :)

A little fill in for post #41- picture #3 Of course Rick Menefee and Bret Dowell in Ricks finish room. Next picture of sheath maker Larry Parsons Mustang, Oklahoma. The folder picture is from the Steamboat Arabia that was sunk in the Missouri River during a storm in 1856. It was rediscovered in the 70's in the middle of a field buried 40 feet deep. The folders were discovered in the wreckage shipped in a packed barrel. The folder designs are still popular today.
The first picture is Chuck Stapel holding the sword he made for Disneyland Europe he made to be buried in the rock-King Arthur Special.
