Memphis Metal Museum apprenticeship

Good luck Sam! We'd miss you, but it's the chance of a lifetime, you gotta go for it!

I spent a lot of time there from 1994 to around 2002 or so. Was there for 'Repair Days' every year and sharpened knives, tools, etc. But would also go over for 'Forging on the River', or just to hang out with friends and make pattern welded steel. Great BBQ!!! Made some life long friends, learned a lot and had a great time. Very Cool Place! Good luck, Sam!

thanks so much everyone!!

and au` contrair, it would give me LOTs of time to work on hammers!!!!!

Bill, i'll be sure to look you up if I end up there! You too Mac! mmm BBq, I bet southern bbq is like NY pizza, NY pizza is only good in NY and southern bbq is only good in the south :D

I'd think i'd only make it North for ashokan and christmas lol!

Totally AWESOME Sam!!! :)

I applied too!!! :)

just kidding- that would be an awesome experience, but Angi would literally kill me! ;)

LOL! I guess there is one good thing about not dating or marrying yet, it's no big deal to pack up your stuff and move to Memphis or wherever :D

I think your husky would kill you, they hate the heat :D! I could see you in a colonel sanders suit and Angi in a big southern belle dress though LOL

Memphis has had an important place in the history and development of jazz if that's of interest. Sadly the crime rate has become high .
Those types of schools will give you a lot assuming you put a lot into it.

I lived in Memphis for 15 years Sam. Fascinating city with lots of historical interest and a huge music history and scene, some what underground. the mid-town area has vey extensive tracts of old blue collar neighbor housing that are still livable and CHEAP, with a tolerance for normal big city precautions. Memphis has a low cost of living, very good water too. extremely deep artesian wells. All untilities are provided by the Memphis Light Gas and Water. The city owns its own gas pipe lines to LA. Get a map and spend the weekends driving back and across the city until you get a feeling for the place. It has been a long time since i was living there, but I still think I could find the house where Machine Gun Kelly was nabbed by the G-men. Some of the "worst" parts of town are the most fascinating. Its a majority black city, lots of salt of the earth good folks with a defininite thug element in places. Memphis is a huge nexus of medical facilities too. The city of Memphis hospital trauma center is one of the best in the nation, or used to be. Well, I ramble. I will let Bill mentor you on the BBQ. :)
