Tell me about them they look nice but at 400 $ I just dont know. Does anyone have one of these? Or seen any? Thanks PG

I saw them at Blade, they were nice but not too inspired and not worth $400 IMO. For that money I would go handmade.

They appeared to be well made, with stout material. I personally didn't like how they fit my hand, so I didn't pay too much attention after that.

Saw them ont he site today for the first time. They dont look very inspired, and the handles really turn me off.
If they were serious about producing fighting/combat folders they would A. use something other than a little thumb stud, which is the hardest opener to access under stress, and B. they would make a handle that would hold the hand better than those will - they are asking for the hand to just shoot right off the back when its wet with sweat and/or blood.
For the money, I'd get something different - something from Charles Marlowe perhaps.

So what "Top Secret Black Operational Wet Works Squirrel Unit" is carrying these folders.

:)

If I had considered purchasing one, which I had'nt, finding a knife described as the "final solution" absolutely ensures that I will not.

well, I'm not a military guy - the most I've been through is the mandatory 2.5 years national service. never been in a knife fight or anything. but my knives are deployed for utility purposes in the outdoors. I think for a folder, the grind style (large flats in the centre akin to dagger grinds) of the folders may not be the most efficient geometry for cutting. Granted they are stronger and look nicer, but they a high hollow grind would be better. After all, I wouldn't use a folder to stab through a metal lined door (don't trust any lock for that). But BG-42 at $400 is something worth considering, is it not?

Not when a BG42 Sebenza can be had for mush less. Or you could even get a s-30v Sebenza for less than the MerkWorx knives and probably have a better knife. May not have bolsers and all that jazz, but it's a well proven design. I'll take substance and well proven over flash any day.

I like their marketing strategy.

"Since its introduction, the Orion has already engendered a large following among both undercover operatives, and hunters and fishermen"

So, next time you're on an undercover fishing operation, you'll know which knife to take.

Honestly, they might be ok knives. But man.. the choice of hunters, fishermen, and UNDERCOVER OPERATIVES? Gosh.

Can't you just get a BG-42 Buck 110 for under a hundred or a little over at their custom shop?

Yep picked one up at the Blade show. At first glance it looked like just another new folder on the market. However one of the most surprising points is the smooth action. These things are sooooooo smooth. I asked the gentleman at the table what materials were used in the pivot assembly, but he didn't know. From just looking with a flashlight they look like standard teflon washers. Very nice folders, fit and finish is excellent.

Hadn't planned on picking up a Mercworx knife, after three days I did though, lol :)

On to the price point...is it worth the $450 they had at the table. To behonest I would have to say no, which obviously shoots me in the foot for selling it, but I'm not going to lie to you guys. After spending some time and getting to know it a little better I do think a price point around $375-$400 would be just about right for the large. Obviously the two smaller models would be adjusted accordingly as well.

If my fricking camera decides to start working again I'll put up some first hand pics.....

Overall, it's an impressive knife for what I believe is their first venture into the folder arena.

Their "shadow warrior" marketing campaign to me seems a pretty lame attempt at creating a buzz about their products. Are they trying to imply that their new line of folders is used by undercover operatives in the service of Outdoor Life magazine??? Is it just me or does anyone else have this image of a guy deer hunting with a full sized deer skin draped over him and a fishing pole sticking out of his back pocket....."be very, very quiet...I'm huntin' wabbits".

Yep, saw the story on Mercworx knives in Knives Illustrated. They seem to subscribe to the Steven Seagal school of advertising. Just start a couple of rumors about possible CIA/covert ops involvement and suddenly people start believing it. I haven't seen the folders but the fixed blades look nice but seem a trifle gaudy for covert ops. BTW the Knives Illustrated article read more like an infomercial than any sort of real review.

the knives look pretty nice, their folders seem to be pretty decent, nothing revolutionary in terms of design or construction, but there are a lot of knives out there that imo are way overpriced but a lot of people don't seem to think so. Therefore, price and value are in the eyes of the beholder. However, I tend to cringe at companies that like to spell things in "hip teenage language" like Merc worx makes Krazy Kool Phat knives.

Just another point. They are ALL handmade. I'll have mine in my hands tomorrow!! I'm looking forward to this knife.
