metal cutting bandsaw recommendations

So the guy that was suppose to weld up my base for my saw backed out because he insisted that it was going to break. Being that I don't have welding gear and am not a very good welder I took it upon myself to make a solid ghetto base.
The materials I had:
  • 24"X18"X5/8" plywood
  • a strip of 2"X3/16" mild steel about 40" long
  • A handful of assorted bolts and screws
Tools on hand:
  • A beat up old circular saw
  • A hacksaw
  • A drill
  • A hammer
  • Assorted drill bits
  • A philips screw driver
  • A 10mm wrench
  • A 5mm allen wrench
  • And a vise

Total build time about 2 1/2 hours and the results are very solid. I needed to test it out and had a piece of 13/16 5160 left over from my first knife build and the idea of making a couple of kiridashi, so the first thing I mad with it was a rudimentary push stick for safety, then I attacked the steel. the ghetto base stood tall and proud and never showed any flex, and the saw chewed through the steel with easy. Then I broke out my little 1X30 grinder and ground in the rough bevel on the kiridashi. I know have a kiridashi ready to be sanded to HT level, and a upright metal cutting band saw and everything took about 3 hours. I am going to drill a couple holes in the tang of the kiridashi and if its not raining when I get back I will take and post a couple of picks of all three of today's creations.:D Who says you need fancy tools and tons of time and space to make a knife?;)
