Metallic or Resin bonded Diamond/CBN?

The most optimal set should be as follows: at the beginning, use stones with a copper-tin bond, say 200/160, 100/80, 50/40. And closer to the finish, take stones with an organic bond: 20/14, 7/5, 3/2

So poltava quality is good to go
As far as quality goes, they are good. But I think you mentioned that you already have a set of Venev MS-1 stones in another thread? If so, then a set of Poltava metallic bonded stones will be very much the same type of stones.

If you wanted to try something else, then the Venev resin based stones would probably be a better choice, seeing that you already have a set of metallic bonded stones.

I was thinking the same thing about the resin one after ready what everyone wrote. As far brand should I stick with venev or try Poltava

I would stick to Venev if you're going to go for resin based stones. If you want to stick to metallic bonded, then either Poltava or Venev will work equally well.

What is reasoning to pick venev resin over Poltava
The resin breaks down during use and can be refreshed easier if needed, similar to many waterstones. It also leaves a finer edge.

It will come down to your personal preference though. These are merely recommendations.

No I am meaning paltova resin Vs venev resin. Why venev over paltova brand

I can't comment on Poltava resin based stones as they are not readily available in the USA.

Venev resin based stones have been thoroughly tested for a long time by many sharpeners with great results and Venev resin based stones are readily available if you need replacement or after sales support.

Venev resin based stones have a proven track record and is known for their excellent performance.

Poltava metallic bonded stones are also readily available in the USA and have been tested and used extensively by many enthusiasts. There is not a lot of information on Poltava resin based stones yet.

Count vouch for everything said here.

can someone save me the time spent researching and explain exactly why resin bonded diamond/cbn produces a finer finish than electroplating bonding given identical grit size?

The diamonds are part-embedded in the resin, with only part of the diamond sticking out. On a plate, the diamonds are fully out in the open, and backed by a hard surface, so they cut deeper given the same pressure.

thank you

This is an old post so hopefully I get a response.
How do you like the quality of the Poltava premiums Vs venev? I'm thinking of buying their premium CBN stones. Or should I just go with venev
Sorry for the late response to this question,I the Venev are better stones for fine edge's and the nature of the resin refines the edge more then the Poltava's.

With the Poltava's I find that 120 400 2K combo gives a great working edge and use 6 Micron Gunny Juice.
