Micarta & G-10- collector (& maker) desirability question(s)....

I typically put Orange, Yellow, or Red G-10 on my skinners , hunters, and back packing knives. I do it for visibility. You are always skinning a deer near dusk and the bright colors show up. I lost 3 knives over the years while back packing because I would set them down on a stump or on the ground and miss them when packing up. Fishing knives need a bright handle so when you drop them in the stream they show up against the rocks.

Kitchen knives, however, don't need high visibility - they need a non-slip grip. Micarta which has been sanded to 800 grit and then buffed with a fairly coarse compound seems to be more slip resistant than G-10 finished the same way. Due to the lack of colors of micarta, I do use G-10 for bolsters. Having said that, I will always use stabilized wood for kitchen knives, given the option. Just my opiniion.
