Michael'’s knives

Hello guys.
Here's a little one that I made these days for yourself.

Blade – mosaic Damascus steel hand forged of 80CrV2 /L2/ and and 75Ni8. Differentially heat treated with clay. It was the first experience for exactly this kind of mosaic Damascus . And of course, things were not exactly as I expected. But it does not matter. Next time it will probably get.

Handle - Two types of oak (cross-section). Few turquoise mosaic and bronze.
There is no sheath.

Great knives you make.....I'm going to get one, too. I enjoy your style and materials, all very appealing. :)

Hello guys.
Here is something that seems to be assembled by chestnuts. At least the color completely matches. :D Because of the shape of the blade, I called this knife “Raptor’s klaw”.

Blade –158 layers Damascus steel hand forged of 52100 and 75Ni8. Differentially heat treated with clay. 59 – 61 HRC after tempering.
Handle – Poplar burl treated with hot steam under high pressure. Not stained.
Inlays – copper. Those of you who have dealt with this know how difficult the three-dimensional inlay is. Especially when the material used is not wire, but a plate like this:

At first I decided that I had put a hedgehog in my pants. Then the challenge captivate me and I almost regretted when finished.
The sheath made of 3 – 3.5 mm. cow leather my friend George Petkov.

The blade shape of raptor's claw may be my favorite of your designs. I love all of your work, but that just speaks to me on a deeper level. Stunning work.

Thank you for your feedback boys. These days was not home, but I was pleasantly surprised when came back.

Hello guys.
This iis the “Wormhole”.
The grandchildren of our grandchildren will travel one day on the direct paths of space using the wormholes. At least that's what some people see, people who have not lost their childhood fantasies.
But I'm not sure at all that the space is ready for these barbarian hordes.
Anyway, holes on the handle of this knife were only local roads for innocent woodworms. :D

Blade –126 layers Damascus steel hand forged of 52100 and 75Ni8. Differentially heat treated with clay. 59 – 61 HRC after tempering.
Handle – Impregnated in green alder burl, corian and impregnated in white oak tree.
Guard – Bronze.
Pommel – Bronze and my special polymer.
Separators – Bronze.
The sheath made of 3 – 3.5 mm. cow leather my friend George Petkov.

Hello guys.
A friend recently asked me: “Why do you spend so much time in the details when you can never take adequate payment for so much work?”
Why really? - I asked myself a little before I fell asleep that night. There is many answers, but most likely my wife was closest to the faithful one when she said once: “Quite often, when you work over your table and think that nobody is watching you, or when you finish one of your projects, some idiot smile appears on your face.” And I think she's right. That's exactly the reason.
So, that's what I will name this knife - “The smile of the idiot”

Blade – 155 layers Damascus steel hand forged of O2 and and much thinner than cigarette paper nickel net - /0.01 mm before forging/. Differentially heat treated with clay. 59 – 61 HRC after tempering.
Handle –
Walnut root.
Guard and pommel – Hand-engraved bronze. Hidden tang.
Inlays - Bronze and mosaic of malachite.
The sheath made of 3.5 - 4 mm. cow leather my friend George Petkov.

Hello guys.
For a long time I had not done a mosaic damaskus. It's not that I forged it in those heats. The forged billet was waiting from the end of the winter to shape it on the grinder. And finally it waited.
I wanted this knife to look like it was made at least 100 years ago. You will say if I have succeeded.

Blade – Mozaic Damascus steel hand forged. For cutting edge I have laminated Silver Steel /1.2210/ Differentially heat treated with clay. 59 – 61 HRC after tempering.
Handle – Ebony.
Guard and pommel –Bronze. Hidden tang.
Inlays – Silver and copper.
The flowering of the Japanese sour cherry. “Zakura”
This knife is without sheath. My feeling is that it deserves a better sheath than what I can do. There is a need for something done by a professional.

Hello guys.
Here's something a little more playful. There is not much fun in doing super-simple handles. At least for me.

Blade – 294 layers hand forged Damascus steel. The steels I used are: high carbon instrumental 80CrV2 and 75Ni8. Differentially heat treated with clay. 58 – 60 HRC after tempering.
Handle –
Walnut root.
Guard – bronze.
Inlays
- bronze and blue green ocean mother of pearl.
The sheath made of 3.5 - 4 mm. cow leather my friend George Petkov.

Any kind of comments are welcome. Thanks’ for watching.

Hi Michael,
I enjoyed your post and knives. Thank you for posting some of your work. I have always wanted to learn repousse and chasing myself, but have not been able too at this time. With each piece of work I produce I am always trying to refine and improve my work until I am satisfied, which most of the time I am not.

Keep posting, I like looking at your distinctive style.

Paul

Thank you Pavlos. I think the most important thing is to have fun while doing what you love. I wish it to you with all my heart.

Hello guys.
Is not it a real scarecrow? Such a wrinkled and cracked ... :D What to say in its defense?

As always I get excited when I see that MK has posted new work either here or in the for sale thread. I am never disappointed at what I see!
The Wharncliff Raptors Claw is likely my favorite.
Someday I might win the lotto and commission one built for myself. I probably woud need to play the lotto to have a chance of winning it tho. ; )

Hello guys.
It seems to me that someday I will have to ask Mom if there was a Chinese trace anywhere in our clan. Sometimes the patience with which I sit and pick at something is just suspicious. Here's the result of one of those fluttering - “Crown of thorns”
