Made it back home as well - Uneventful trip back through what Chicagolanders laughingly call "traffic flow" -
On the way up, Cooper and I got stuck in a 1.5 hour traffic jam where we rolled less than 4 miles total. That set us back on our timeline for getting to John's house, but once we got out of Mokena things cleared up and we made it to the cabin at Clear Lake around 10pm local time (11pm central)
Our friends who arrived earlier in the day had been taking their revelry seriously, and so the late arrivers had a lot of catching up to do.
The weather was outstanding - it got into the lower 50s in the evening and mid 70s in the daytime. Good stuff.
We held the hiking staff/ 'shroomin' stick competition, which Sean (outdoorsfan) won in a close contest against Jeff (jds1) and his almost tribal looking staff.
We had great food, lots of good drink and much quality conversations and knife talk. A lot of Saturday was spent laying around the fire and carving on our sticks.
On to a sampling of the pictures - which can all be found at the following link -

Obligatory fire shot - I melted the bottom of my boots relaxing, having a toddy out of my sippie cup and "watching" the Cardinals game on my cell phone - this was after everyone else had retired for the evening.
Posting from my current phone was problematic - not with BF but with my phone, but I could surf still when I wanted -
Morning around the camp -
John's Modified Kephart in Black Palm -
this one is still for sale - what a great knife!
We also got to handle the Model 2 ,

I started off rough shaping my stick with my ever present and extremely useful DBH -
Fuzzy Wuzzy was a...um....WORM? Well, he "accordianed "his way through our campsite anyway.
jds1 checking out the JK Kukri -
Connie K sent up a nice batch of Stuffed Green Pepper Soup - It was yummy! I think I ate half of this pot full!
jds1 took delivery of his beautiful new third-generation JK Friction Folder - This was the nicest FF that has come out of the JK Shop to date!
I also got a chance to play with an RGrizzle design Bluegill - what a nice little knife! I like the proportions on this one.
Uncle Bill brought each of us some powerful little neodymium magnets and also gifted each of the Gathering participants with a nice little double-a flashlight with a powerful LED emitter and adjustable beam concentrator. Very cool! I will get picture of the flashlight Bill gave me, but I don't see one at the moment.
Saturday dinner was some onions and shrooms with butter simmered in Sean's ale, then we put these over top of our filet mignon, a Russian-style fire baked potato and the drink of choice. YUM!!!
The XD XT Modern Bowie was a big hit with the crowd.
Obligatory fire shot -
Breakfast on Sunday was potatoes and onions from jds1, and Uncle Bill's awesome treat Chorizo with Eggs, served with cheese on warm tortillas!
Scanduckie made the scene
For our voting on the sticks, we used Snyder's pretzel chunks - you were allowed two voting chunks.
Patrick carved this stick with cool "bullets" - a great idea and it came out nice!
Cooper carved a neat pattern into his stick -
Jeff's stick had an almost "ancient" quality to it -
Sean had carved a crown on the knob and several embellishments along the stick -
JK put his logo on his stick, made from oak no less!
Sean with his winning stick - jds1 was a close second place!
John and his entry -
Patrick and jds1 with their sticks -
John made Jeff an impromptu JK Knife for second place.
The two DBHs that exist in the world were present and accounted for - and they served various camp duties all weekend long.
Ceremonial "Touching of the Saber Tooth" that only DBH owners can partake -
The XD Modern Bowie was lit up like a Jack O' Lantern with the copper tubes reflecting a nice orange glow -
Back at the JK Shop and Grounds, we compared the XD XT Modern Bowie to the in-process XD XM Modern Bowie -
That is about it - Great times and I recommend this to anyone who can make it - we never want for a great time!
We did a little hiking around the area of the cabin - we need to explore the area more.
best
